Goodbye! That's all from the Test series. Dean Elgar lifts the trophy with his teammates and they are looking a very pleased unit. West Indies, on the other hand, have been disappointing and they need to go back to the drawing board. They have a T20I series coming up now which will begin on 26th June 2021 at 1400 local (1800 GMT). Do join us then. Cheers and take care.
Quinton de Kock, the MAN OF THE SERIES, says that the coaches are the ones who helped him get better. Adds that they had a few senior players but this is a young squad and they have a long way to go. Tells that it is nice to have a bunch of guys like these and credits the coaching staff for doing a terrific job. Adds that the ball was swinging in the 70th over when he was there in the first innings and as the ball got older, it was difficult to bat.
Dean Elgar says that this win is huge and they have not won a series in quite some time. Adds that it is a challenge and he has got a talented bunch and they have a good management squad. Tells that the boys stood up and character is very important and that's what they got. Adds that the batting was commendable and their bowlers were brilliant and the wicket was tough. Tells that it was nice to see Rabada perform and it was a great team effort. Says that Rabada is a world-beater and that is what is expected from him and he is a great guy to have in the team. Tells that Ngidi is difficult to face in the nets and it is nice to have him in the team.
Kraigg Brathwaite says that it is disappointing to lose but credits the bowlers for giving it their all. Tells that they could not make partnerships. Tells that they did not carry on and that hurt them. Adds that Roston Chase is also not there and it was a problem. Goes onto say that there were very few partnerships and he did not play well as he would have liked and they will come back stronger. Goes onto say that they need some rest and they have a few weeks to work on some technical stuff and they need to figure out where they can do better.
Kagiso Rabada, the MAN OF THE MATCH, says it has been a while since they have won away from home and they are going to celebrate. Adds that everyone had the hunger to get back on top and everyone put their hand up which is a good sign. Tells that his job is to bowl and whenever they need some lower-order runs, he needs to put his hand up and it's up to them to put their team in a good position. States that great names have retired like Steyn, Philander and Morkel and now it is time for the next generation to come on board and it is nice to spend time with a young group. Tells that personally, the 5-wicket haul was important for him in the first Test match.
Keshav Maharaj is there for a chat. He says that it is really important to win and it is a good stepping zone for them and credits the whole team for a fine victory. Tells that Powell was batting well and he knew he was going to come after him and he bowled it in the right areas. Goes onto say that on the Hat-Trick ball, many things were going on in his head. Adds that there was too much excitement. Tells that catches have been taken and full credit must be given to the fielders. Tells that full credit has to be given to the captain and it is nice to receive support from the skipper. Tells that there are a lot of positives to be taken from this series.
Stay tuned for the presentation ceremony!
West Indies needed 324 runs to win but they had a disappointing start as they lost two wickets quickly. But Mayers and Powell gave them some hope as they stitched a fine partnership but they both threw their wickets away and collapsed. They lost three more in quick succession. Jermaine Blackwood and Kemar Roach gave some fight. But once Blackwood fell, they were bowled out. Kagiso Rabada did a very good job but it was Keshav Maharaj who stole the show. He first picked up a Hat-Trick and then returned to pick up two more to end with a five=fer. In the end, they won by 158 runs.
South Africa struggled in their second innings as they were reduced to 73 for 7 and the game was in the balance then. Then came out Rassie van der Dussen and Kagiso Rabada who counterattacked and helped South Africa get to 173. Van der Dussen played a very good innings while Rabada scored a fine 40. It was Kemar Roach who led with the ball for West Indies. He picked up 4 wickets to keep them down but they will be disappointed that they gave a few runs towards the end.
West Indies were very poor with the bat in the first innings as they were dismissed for just 149. Only Jermaine Blackwood gave some fight as he scored a fine 49 but it was not enough to save West Indies from the blushes. Nobody got going and they were crumbled in the first innings. South African bowlers were just superb in the first innings. Rabada and Ngidi did a very good job while Nortje was decent. Mulder came out and had some fun as well, picking up three wickets and bowling out West Indies for just 149.
After being put into bat, South Africa had a tough start in their first innings as they lost some quick wickets and they were in trouble at one stage. They then were helped by Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock to get to a good score. Elgar scored a fine 77 while de Kock missed out on a well-deserved century as he was dismissed for 96. West Indies' bowling was led by Kemar Roach who picked up three wickets. He was well supported by Kyle Mayers who ended with 3 himself.
End of a fabulous win for South Africa! They have completely dominated this game and the series and it is also Dean Elgar's first series win as captain of the Test side. They will be very pleased with the effort and they needed this win. West Indies, on the other hand, have disappointed and they have been humbled at home by a terrific South African side.
