That's all from this game. West Indies will be disappointed. They were ahead in the game till the 45th over and have somehow lost this game. New Zealand will be relieved with this win and they enter the semi-finals of the under-19 World Cup. They will face the winner of South Africa and Bangladesh which is going to played on Thursday, 30th January at 1000 Local (0800 GMT). Join us for that game. Until then cheers.
Jesse Tashkoff, the New Zealand skipper, says Field and Clarke showed great courage to take them over the line. Adds that they fought hard even after losing 8 wickets. Mentions that the boys took the responsibility and credits them for taking that. Tashkoff also says they are ready for the semi-finals and will look to do well.
Kimani Melius, the Windies skipper, says it is very difficult to digest this defeat. Adds that New Zealand played really well to win this match. Mentions the dropped catches in the end hurt them very badly. Melius also says Jayden Seals bowled very well and was very accurate.
Kristian Clarke, the Man of the Match, he says that he is feeling very good and credits the team for doing well. Adds that the bowlers had a lot of time and they needed the target to be at 10 off 6 balls in the last over. Mentions that everyone has to take responsibility and they ensured that they justified their roles.
Earlier in the day, West Indies with the help from Kirk McKenzie helped the Windies reach a score of 238. His 99 was the key in getting the score upto 238. All the batters struggled but West Indies might have felt that it was enough on this pitch. It was not though as New Zealand have just about won the game from nowhere. Stay tuned for the presentation ceremony.
West Indies, bruised and broken. They were running away with the game. They had their one foot into the semi-finals but succumbed under pressure to lose the game from an unlikely position. Where did they lose the game? It certainly feels the dropped catches, missed stumpings and misfields played a major part in their defeat. They will be distraught with what perspired at the end of the game. Ashmead Nedd was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up three wickets as well as kept things tight. Everybody bowled well but could not cope up with the partnership that was built between Clarke and Field.
The innings did not start off in the best of fashion as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Quinn Sunde and Simon Keene tried to resurrect things with a partnership but they fell in quick succession. At 153/8, who would have thought that they will win? Joey Field and Kristian Clarke certainly kept their faith and did the unimaginable for his side.
Take a bow, Kristian Clarke and Joey Field. They have taken the Kiwis to the semi-finals out of nowhere. Their 86-run stand has taken the Kiwis to the semi-finals of the Under-19 World Cup. They were 153/8 and were looking down and out. Clarke and Field then joined hands. They started slowly and then in the last few overs upped the ante and got them home with 2 balls to spare. Just brilliant. They are ecstatic and why wouldn't they be!
