That's all from us, folks! We saw two big guns, Shahid Afridi and Chris Gayle entertaining us today. We just have a single game tomorrow where Afghanistan will take on Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens. The latter have entered into the Super 10s in some style and you can hope for the same performance again. Join us for the all the action at 1930 IST. Until then, goodbye and take care!
EOIN MORGAN says that they had a decent total although a score of 200 would have been good. Feels that 220 would obviously have been match winning. Adds by saying that it's always difficult to stop a player like Gayle when he is on full song. Doesn't feel that England's batsmen were slowish. Credits the Windies bowlers for mixing up the variations well to ensure that England never really ran away with the game.
DARREN SAMMY says that it is always a joy to watch Gayle bat like this. States that it was an incredible knock from an incredible player. Feels that England batted well but stated that his team's opponents never really accelerated at any point. States that he felt England would get 220 at one point but credits his bowlers for restricting the score. Terms Samuels as a big match player and says that he felt that the batsman would play positively tonight. Says that he is aware of all the things that are written about West Indies and maintains that they were always confident of doing well in the 2016 World T20. Concludes by saying that they are certainly here to win the tournament although he acknowledges that it will be tough work and insists that his team has a big chance if they play to their potential.
MAN OF THE MATCH, CHRIS GAYLE says he has good skills and the preparations were good before this match. Adds the wicket was a good one to bat on and he took time to settle down. Further says he kept his composure and kept striking to keep the run rate squeezing. Continues he wanted to entertain Sulieman Benn as he told him to do so as he is his drinking partner. On the chase he says, they have seen some big totals being chased down during the IPL. Ends by saying he will look to do well at his favourite place, Bangalore against Sri Lanka.
The English bowlers, despite getting off to a decent start, had no answer to the onslaught Gayle put them through. Every single one of them were clueless and left standing with their hands over their heads. Guess even they knew there isn't much you can do when you're up against something like that. Although he didn't take any wickets, Chris Jordan was the pick of the bowlers as he was the most economical.
The Wankhede stadium then witnessed the Gayle-storm and that just blew everybody by surprise. The big man went on to score his 2nd T20I century, which also happens to be the fastest century ever in the World T20 by playing some monstrous shots. He took the game away from the Brits and gave them no chance.
Wow! Just... Wow! One might run out of superlatives for Chris Gayle. He's finished the game off on his own with almost two overs to spare. West Indies didn't start the innings off in the best of ways. Then Samuels came in and took charge of things. There was a point when Gayle didn't come on strike for more than 3 overs. Samuels then departed and it seemed like England would get right on top from that moment on. But how wrong a thought was that?
