That is it from the Test series! Sri Lanka have won their first series of 2021 and have unearthed a gem in young Praveen Jayawickrama. Bangladesh have succumbed yet again in the longest form. Mominul Haque will hope that his side can improve and finally take that next step in the red-ball format. Hope you enjoyed the coverage. We hope to see you soon. Till then, goodbye and take care!
For his fantastic performance with the bat in both the Tests in this series, Sri Lankan skipper, Dimuth Karunaratne is named the Player of the Series. Karunaratne says they are playing well and tells he needed to deliver as captain as he was short of runs coming into the series. Credits the bowlers for the way they bowled. Karunaratne says he was too positive from the first ball against West Indies. Tells he spoke to the coaches about it and was told to respect the bowlers and the good ball and that is what he tried to do. Karunaratne says they have faith they can win games and tells they needed to put score on the board. Karunaratne says everything went well in this Test from the word go. Credits Praveen and says he was fantastic along with Ramesh Mendis and tells once they get more confidence from playing, they will be able to fill the shoes of Rangana Herath.
Bangladesh skipper, Mominul Haque, says that the toss was the most important thing in his view. He believes there was nothing on the first two days for the bowlers and hence he feels the toss was crucial. Mominul says the conditions were very similar to home. Mominul says while playing international cricket there will be pressure and one should embrace it. Mominul feels they lost the game in the first innings as they failed to put up score with the bat in the first innings.
For his dream debut, picking up 11 wickets in his maiden outing and becoming the first Sri Lankan to do so. No prizes for guessing, Praveen Jayawickrama is named the Man of the Match. Jayawickrama says that he is extremely happy as this was his goal as a child. Jayawickrama says that the team helped him as there was some pressure but he was able to overcome those.
Stay tuned for the presentation as we hear from both the skippers and find out who our Man of the Match and Player of the Series are!
Bangladesh needed 436 runs to win, a task that always looked a bit far-fetched. If not that, the tourists needed to bat 5 sessions to end this game in a stalemate. That too felt like a daunting task as the pitch was turning square. The visitors failed to do either. Bangladesh batters did try to put up a fight but none of the top order batter could play a marathon innings. That fight was not enough as they failed by a huge score of 209! Once again, debutant and the new star of Sri Lanka cricket, Praveen Jayawickrama was once again in the thick of action. He followed his 6-fer with another 5-wicket haul to become the first Sri Lankan and the 4th player in the world to get 10 or more wickets on Test debut. He was excellently supported by Ramesh Mendis who finished the second innings with a 4-fer.
With a lead of 242 and a lot of time remaining in the Test, Karunaratne decided to bat again. The hosts added up another 194 runs in quick time. Karunaratne was once again the key as he scored 66 off just 78 balls. With the lead of 436, and 5 sessions to have a go at Bangladesh, the Sri Lankan skipper declared. Taijul Islam was the star with the ball for Bangladesh in the second innings as he finished with a 5-fer. That though was not enough as once again the tourists failed to grab 10 wickets.
The pitch by now had started to become tough to bat on as it started to turn and assist the spinners. Bangladesh's reply started off well as Tamim took charge with his 92. At 214/3, the tourists were looking solid but none of the batters could capitalize on their starts and Bangladesh lost their last 7 wickets for mere 37 runs. It was the Jayawickrama show with the ball as he was instrumental in the collapse and the debutant introduced himself to the Test arena with a bang! Finishing with 6/92! While Suranga Lakmal and Ramesh Mendis grabbed 2 each.
So a quick summary of the Test. Dimuth Karunaratne won the crucial coin toss and decided to bat. A decision that was very important. The pitch looked docile on Day 1 as there was nothing for the bowlers. The hosts took advantage of it and on the back of centuries from Karunaratne and Thirimanne managed to put up a huge score of 493 before declaring. Taskin Ahmed grabbed a 4-fer but the tourists were run ragged on the field and they were unable to pick up 10 wickets.
Sri Lanka have done it! After three consecutive draws, they have got one over the line and seal the series with a comprehensive win! A dream debut for young Praveen Jayawickrama! 11 wickets on debut, the best ever by a left arm spinner on Test debut as he has won the game and the series for his side in his first appearance in Test cricket. Bangladesh put up a fight but could not manage to find a way to deal with young Praveen Jayawickrama!

Praveen Jayawickrama To Abu Jayed OUT!
OUT! LBW! Jayawickramam gets a five-fer! Flighted delivery on off, Jayed looks to defend off the back foot but misses it and gets hit on the pads. The bowler appeals for lbw and the umpire raises his finger. Jayed reviews it. Ultra Edge shows there is no bat involved. Ball Tracker shows that is three reds and Jayed has to depart. SRI LANKA WIN BY 209 RUNS!
Review! Abu Jayed has been adjudged LBW but he has opted for the review. Will the replays delay the inevitable or will that be the game and series for Sri Lanka?

OUT! CAUGHT! 10 wickets on debut for Praveen Jayawickrama! Fantastic anticipation from Nissanka to take the catch. Flighted delivery around off, Mehidy premeditates his paddle. Pathum Nissanka at short leg, quickly moves to his right and shows great reflexes too. Mehidy paddles it uppishly and Nissanka takes a very good catch.
