That's it then from this game and also from a fabulous Super Sunday. We've had four entertaining games and the party just keeps on going. On 15th August, there's a double-header lined up as Birmingham Phoenix go up against Trent Rockets. It will be the Women's game first followed by the Men's game. The first one will start at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT) but our build-up as usual will begin much sooner. Till then, take care and goodbye!
Mahela Jayawardena, the coach of Southern Brave, says that they have not played good cricket. Feels that all the teams have improved but they have not. Adds that the bowlers of Oval Invincibles hit the good areas and his batters didn't show enough confidence to attack. Praises Will Jacks for his knock. On the absence of Tymal Mills, Mahela replies that it's unfortunate for them with the injuries but at the same time, it's an opportunity for the other guys in the squad. Admits that they have not been playing quality cricket. Tells that they are not going to give up on the season and keep trying hard and win those marginal games. Shares that in The Hundred you have to go out without the fear of failure. Feels that they are making a few errors that they need to rectify. He is confident about the quality of the squad and adds that it's more about understanding the roles within the group.
Sam Billings, the captain of Oval Invincibles, says that it is a momentum game and tonight was all about one man, a very special knock from Will Jacks. Adds that the moment of the day was Jacks getting to his hundred and he completely deserved it. Says that he is very lucky to have six frontline bowlers and Reece Topley bowled a fabulous first set of ten. Adds that they bowled first because there was a green tinge on the pitch and their pacers did get help and they used it well too. Says that Jacks had some time in the middle in a recent four-day game and on a good wicket when he gets in, there's no stopping him. Goes on to share that the first time when he saw Jacks, he was taking on the fiery pace of Adam Milne and calls him a class act. Says that anytime you lose a player like Sunil Narine, it is a big opportunity for someone else. On Jason Roy's sorry form, Billings calls it a horrible place to be in and everyone's been there but he's a world-class player. Reckons that at the moment they are winning games without some of the big names firing which is good and they can help out when things get tight. Adds that the crowd has been great, it's great fun to play for them and is happy with the win.
Will Jacks (108* off 48 balls) is the unanimous choice for the Player of the Match award. Says that it's an amazing feeling and he is thrilled with the way everyone was cheering for him when he was on strike. Shares that he was just picking his scoring areas and went for the balls falling in his arc. Mentions that it was a below-par target and he had the luxury of taking his time. States that there are so many good players in England and there is a lot of competition to represent the national team.
Presentation coming up...
The Invincibles planned their chase to perfection. They amassed 36 runs in the Powerplay and scored the same number of runs on the next 25 balls as well. The wickets of Rilee Rossouw and Sam Billings did fall along the way, but the presence of Will Jacks, in scintillating form, never allowed Southern Brave to create any pressure. The defending champions got outplayed and it's yet another big loss for them.
What a knock! What a finish! A thumping win for Oval Invincibles! They have now won three on the bounce and going strong in this edition. This victory was set up by their bowling unit, led by Reece Topley's exceptional first three sets. Southern Brave were lacklustre with the bat, and their bowling was also flat, despite starting brightly by dismissing Jason Roy for a duck. It was the Will Jacks show after that. The other day Will Smeed notched up the first-ever hundred of The Hundred and here is another Will, Will Jacks doing the same. Take a bow!
