Right then, that is all we have from this Qualifier. We have our one finalist ready now with Multan Sultans marching towards the summit clash. The attention now moves towards Eliminator 1 in which Peshawar Zalmi will lock horns with Islamabad United. That game will be played on Thursday, February 24 at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT). Although, as you know, our coverage will start well in advance. So do join us for the same. Till then, goodbye and cheers!
Mohammad Rizwan, the skipper of Multan Sultans, says that their plan while batting was to keep wickets in hand and tells that Rilee Rossouw batted really well. Tells that something around 170-175 was going to be a good total on this track. Applauds Shahnawaz Dahani by saying that he bowled his heart out and he is happy for Dahani. Mentions that they were confident of defending the total and even 163 was a good total on that surface.
Shaheen Afridi, the skipper of Lahore Qalandars, says that credit goes to Multan and the captaincy of Rizwan was good. He says that the bowling in the last four overs should have been better as they gave away 10 runs extra. He says that Fakhar Zaman has been playing well and they need to step up as a unit and come back stronger in the next game.
Shahnawaz Dahani is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. He says that he is glad they won the match and are into the finals now. Adds that Rizwan had kept him for the slog overs and he tried his best with the ball. Tells that there was some reverse swing on offer and he stuck to his plans. Mentions that once he took the catch of Samit Patel, he was very happy and overall he is very satisfied with his performance.
Stay tuned for the presentation.
Lahore Qalandars would have fancied their chances at the halfway mark with Fakhar Zaman in top form and with a long batting today with the inclusion of Patel in the lineup. However, the start was far from perfect for Qalandars as they failed to score quickly and also kept losing wickets on the way. It was Fakhar Zaman who kept the innings going and his partnership with Brook brought them right back into the game. However, once Brook and Fakhar Zaman departed, other batters crumbled under pressure as they ended up losing wickets at regular intervals and in the end, fell short by a big margin.
Multan Sultans must have been a little nervous going into the mid-innings break with a par score on the board. However, runs on the board in a pressure encounter like this is always crucial and Lahore's batters failed to get going as Multan's spinners bowled brilliantly and on the way took three wickets in quick time. But just when things seemed to be going their way, Fakhar Zaman unleashed his might and smashed Tahir for 20 runs in the 12th over. The next over also went for 12 runs and the momentum was back with Lahore. However, the Strategic Time-Out came at the right time for Multan and after that, the momentum just shifted back in Multan’s way. Dahani got rid of Brook in the next over after the Time-Out and in the very next over, Willey got the big wicket of Fakhar Zaman. After that, wickets kept falling as seamers dominated the proceedings and the defending champions have again played like a champion team here.
Multan Sultans are through to the finals of PSL 2022! They have been the best team in the tournament so far and they have proved it yet again in this Qualifier. Lahore had their moments in this game but have failed to outclass Sultans here and will now to have to bring their A-game in the Eliminator 2 to make their way into the summit clash of this seventh edition of PSL.
