That's all from Super Sunday. Andre Russell's whirlwind knock earned Kolkata a win from the jaws of defeat while Rishabh Pant's scintillating innings outclassed Mumbai in their own den. The first Monday of this year's Indian T20 League will see Rajasthan locking horns against Punjab at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. The action begins at 2000 IST (1430 GMT). Do join us then. Cheers!
Man of the Match, Rishabh Pant says that it's been a great journey and he is learning with every passing time. Adds that his plan is to play as per the situation. Mentions that he took his chances and got away with a few. Also states that in T20 you have to do something different and that's what he tries to do. He is happy to bat at any position and it doesn't matter much if they are winning.
Victorious Delhi skipper, Shreyas Iyer is all smiles and says that they have got a good start. Adds that he was well-prepared for the captaincy role as he has been doing that for the India A team. On Delhi leading the H2H now, Iyer says that they prepared well and ticked in all the boxes. He is satisfied with the overall effort and atmosphere and wants to put in a consistent show. On Rishabh Pant, Iyer terms him as a destructive batsman and also adds that he has matured a lot over the years. On Kagiso Rabada's bowling, Shreyas says that he is a good bowler to have as he puts in full effort and bowls with a lot of venom.
Ishant Sharma also gives an interview. He admits that he was very nervous after watching Pant bat as the ball was flying to all parts. He is happy with his bowling performance. Holding nerves and executing plans are the key, adds Ishant. States that they are gelling well together as a team. Considers this win as really important as they have a new team and coaching staff and it's a big boost to them.
Mumbai skipper, Rohit Sharma says that the first game is always challenging for a team and admits that they made a lot of mistakes today. Adds that they were in the game in the first 10 overs when they were bowling and credits Rishabh Pant for the way he batted. Feels that they didn't hit the right length but is positive that they will learn and bounce back. Mentions that they had a nice combination but it could change according to the conditions. On the pitch, Rohit replies that it was good for batting but rues the fact that no one batted deep.
Wet ball, dew around, problems if you are a bowler. But Delhi had the cushion of 213 runs behind them and Ishant's tidy start kept the pressure on Mumbai. Then Kagiso Rabada maintained that and the home side could never get going consistently for a long period of time. Rahul Tewatia was in the record books, not for his bowling but for his fielding - 4 catches he took in the game, becoming just the 4TH FIELDER to achieve this feat - after Sachin Tendulkar, David Warner and Jacques Kallis. Please stay tuned for the presentation...
With the seeds being sown in the first innings itself, thanks to Rishabh Pant's blitzkrieg, Mumbai needed a terrific start, which they did not get. The openers did threaten a little but 33/0 became 45/3 in next to no time. The middle order then tried to rally around Yuvraj Singh but it was too much to be done. Eventually, Yuvraj was the only one who crossed the 50-mark when ideally, he should have had a couple of more mates doing that.
A 37-run win for Delhi to get their tournament running. Who would have thought? Probably a few statisticians. The last time Mumbai won their opening match in the Indian T20 League was way back in 2012.
