Right then, that is it from this game and Gujarat has kept their hopes alive while Delhi need to wait a little longer to confirm their place in the top three. However, there is a one-day break and the action in the Women's T20 League resumes on 18th March, Saturday with a double-header. The first game will see Mumbai take on UP and that game will start at 3.30 pm IST (10 am GMT) while in the second match, Bangalore will be up against Gujarat in a do-or-die game. That game will begin at 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but as you know you can join us earlier for the build-up of both games. Until then, Cheers and Goodbye!
Ashleigh Gardner is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. She says this is probably the game she was searching for so far as she wasn't happy on a personal level so far. She adds that her partnership with Laura Wolvaardt was really crucial for the team and her as well. She also adds that you have to give yourself some deliveries before unleashing as you can always catch up here as the outfield is fast and one can trust bounce here. She closes by saying that the track does spin and grip but you have to execute the basics well in order to come out on top.
Sneh Rana, the victorious skipper says that the smile is always there. Adds that they thought that 150 was a par score on this wicket and says she enjoyed the wicket of Meg Lanning. Tells that they started brilliantly and picking up two wickets in one over set the tone for them. Mentions that whoever contributes out of Sophia Dunkley and Laura Wolvaardt, it is good for the team. Says that she always said that they needed two good partnerships which they did in this game and the result is there. Ends by saying that everyone was in a positive mindset and performed well in all three departments and she is proud of her team.
Meg Lanning, the captain of Delhi says if they would have batted out the overs then they would have won this. She adds that the team hasn't played up to its potential and that is why they have lost. She also adds that they bowled well to start but with wickets in the bag Gujarat took advantage in the end and that was always on the cards. The batting did not do well today and a couple of run-outs did not help as well. On bowling of Harleen, she says that she was not aware of her bowling ability and her bowling off-spin was a surprise to them.
Presentation Time ...
Kim Garth is up for a flash interview. She says that they have played well throughout the tournament, but weren't lucky enough and is delighted with this win. Adds that finally their hard work paid off and says it can be challenging to work with players from different nations, but they showed fight in this game. Mentions that their top order did well and the pitches are slowing up a bit. Ends by saying that she was going for runs, even though she was bowling well and is happy that it won't be the case anymore.
Earlier in the innings, Gujarat posted a fighting total on the board thanks to the fifties from Ashleigh Gardner and Laura Wolvaardt. Jess Jonassen picked up a couple of wickets while Arundhati Reddy and Marizanne Kapp got one each. In reply, Marizanne Kapp and Arundhati Reddy fought hard for Delhi but fell short in the end.
Gujarat put on a good bowling effort in this game, but they were made to work hard. They allowed a couple of partnerships in the middle, but the good thing for them was that they were able to pick up wickets in a bunch which made it difficult for the Delhi batters to continue the flow of runs. Marizanne Kapp was looking really good when she was batting, but the move from Sneh Rana to give the ball to Harleen Deol worked as she got rid of Kapp. Kim Garth, Ashleigh Gardner and Tanuja Kanwar all picked up a couple of wickets each while Rana chipped in with one. However, they almost threw the game in the end when they were not able to get Arundhati Reddy out, but ultimately got over the line.
Delhi did not get off to a good start as they lost Shafali Verma quite early. Meg Lanning and Alice Capsey steadied their ship for a bit, but soon lost three wickets in quick succession which put them on the back foot again. Then Marizanne Kapp showed her class and played a few lusty blows and put them back on track. However, she got dismissed by some individual brilliance in the field by Ashwani Kumari which once again started a mini-collapse. After that, Arundhati Reddy took matters into her own hands and chipped in with some crucial runs with only two wickets in hand. She continued to score runs with Shikha Pandey giving her the required support. Unfortunately for them, Reddy got out in the penultimate over and Poonam Yadav could not save her wicket as they fell short by 11 runs in the end.
A fine victory for Gujarat! However, it got really close in the end, but they were able to hold their nerves. They get their second win of the season and keep their qualification hopes alive while Delhi will look to come back stronger in the next game.
