So, Afghanistan have seal the series. A chance for them to test their bench in the last match. West Indies will hope to avoid a clean sweep. Join us tomorrow on the 22nd for the third and final match. It begins at 2.30 pm GMT. As usual, you can join us early on. Cheers!
Afghanistan skipper, Rashid Khan, says playing against the West Indies is always tough. They had a tough Asia Cup and going into the World Cup, this series is a good preparation. Reckons hitting the key areas consistently always helps and he tries and keep it very simple. Shares that they were working on momentum with the bat. Darwish Rasooli has taken the responsibility so far, and it helps the team. Feels it is about giving the best on the ground and put the effort till the last ball.
Brandon King of West Indies says Shimron Hetmyer played a fantastic innings but once he fell, he should have taken some responsibility to finish the game. Mentions that they could have restricted Afghanistan under a lower total had they taken the important catches. Feels the plan was simple to target the shorter boundary.
Mujeeb Ur Rahman wins the Player of the Match award. He says the plan was to keep it simple, hit the stumps regularly. Admits he wasn't aware that he was on a hat trick. Mentions that it's a good preparation for the World Cup, playing against the West Indies is always tough.
...Presentation...
In response, the West Indies struggled to find their footing early, hamstrung by a sluggish Powerplay that yielded only 29 runs and saw Athanaze run out for 8. The pressure intensified when Mujeeb Ur Rahman struck twice in two balls to remove Lewis and Charles, leaving the visitors reeling at 38/3. However, Shimron Hetmyer ignited a fierce comeback, launching a barrage of three sixes against Noor Ahmad to shift the momentum. Alongside Brandon King, Hetmyer propelled a rapid partnership that saw the Windies plunder 60 runs in a mere 25 deliveries, threatening to snatch control of the chase. Sensing the danger, Rashid Khan reintroduced Fazalhaq Farooqi, whose clinical intervention secured the vital wicket of Hetmyer and halted the Caribbean surge just as it reached its peak. Once Shimron Hetmyer and Brandon King were departed, it was a procession with Afghanistan picking up the remaining wickets quickly. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was the star of the show. A four-wicket haul, including the hat trick, makes him a contender for the player of the match award.
Afghanistan will be happy with how they have batted after being inserted to bat first. After an early stumble left them at 9/1, Afghanistan staged a masterful recovery to post a formidable 189/4, headlined by a clinical 100-run partnership between Sediqullah Atal and Darwish Rasooli. Despite losing both openers within the Powerplay, the hosts maintained a high tempo through aggressive intent and wayward bowling from the West Indies' pace attack. The middle overs proved decisive as Rasooli and Atal dismantled the spinners, particularly targeting Gudakesh Motie to set a dominant platform. A late-innings explosion by Azmatullah Omarzai, coupled with a slow over-rate penalty against the visitors, allowed Afghanistan to plunder 48 runs in the final five overs, leaving West Indies with a daunting required run rate of around 10 per over.
A pretty comfortable outing on both occasions for Afghanistan as they have hammered West Indies once again! They take an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the three-match series.
