Inn Break
Right then, that is all we have from this game. It is Manchester Originals who have got the win here and have avenged the loss on the Women's side. The action in The Hundred 2022 continues on Friday, the 19th of August with another double header. Birmingham Phoenix will take on Northern Superchargers and it will be the Women's game first. That match will begin at 8 pm IST (2.30 pm GMT) but as usual, our build-up will start sooner. Cheers!
Andre Russell (64* off 23 balls & 1 for 7) is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH. On being asked about how he felt, he says he enjoyed it for sure. Mentions that it is his fifth game and he has been feeling confident with the bat but has not been clicking. Claims that his coach said that today is the day and it worked out. Says it is very important to win as teams will beat other teams and once they pick wins they have control. Adds that they have a good team and they should be doing better. Says that they keep going from strength to strength. Claims that his strength is to come and take on the spinners. Credits the left-arm chinaman for bowling well. Says that he knew there were 20 balls of fast bowling to come and he wanted to play out the spinners and stay till the end. Says that they, unfortunately, lost the skipper. Informs that they want to keep batting in pairs and thinking about the game the way he was thinking about taking it deep. He felt that 160 was a good score but they a lot more and put pressure on them. Ends by saying that this format is amazing and really quick and you have to keep thinking and you can be caught off guard. Says he loves it and he is enjoying it so far.
The Presentation ceremony...
Earlier on, James Vince put Manchester Originals into bat and this backfired as the opposition openers were all over the bowlers. Salt fell but Buttler did go on to score big and he was well supported by Andre Russell, who went into sixth gear towards the end and helped his side put on a mammoth total. There wasn't much to talk about Brave's bowlers and only Jake Lintott showed some sort of control with the ball. Chasing a daunting target, Southern Brave's middle order crumbled under pressure and an all-round showing with ball by the Originals has seen them get back-to-back wins here.
Things just keep on getting worse for Southern Brave. After losing premier players due to injuries, their batting order is underperforming a lot. The top order did get a start but as soon as James Vince was dismissed by some exceptional fielding off his own bowling by Sean Abbott, their innings started to crumble. Marcus Stoinis and Tim David too failed once again and there was some fight put up by George Garton and Ross Whiteley but it was never going to be enough. They need to bounce back at the earliest if they are to keep their hopes alive in this competition.
Manchester Originals have been ahead of their opponents from the get-go. Their batters had set up the platform for them but their bowlers have been equally good. After a sedate start with the ball, the Originals started picking up wickets with regularity and it was Tristan Stubbs's double-strike that put them well in command. After that, it was a matter of game management and almost every bowler that came in got a wicket for their side. Paul Walter was exceptional too, picking up three wickets and Matt Parkinson sealed the game with a late double-breakthrough.
This has been a comprehensive performance from Manchester Originals and they get their second win on the trot to rise up the points table. As for Southern Brave, the reigning champions are seemingly all but out of the playoffs race.
