A game that perfectly captures why we love this sport and why the Indian Premier League continues to be the gift that keeps on giving. After failing to defend 245 in their last outing in Hyderabad, they turned things around dramatically by defending just 111 in Mullanpur, a venue that hasn’t exactly been a happy hunting ground for them. With this win, Punjab move up to 4th on the points table, boasting 4 wins from 6 games. On the other hand, the Knight Riders will be gutted to have let this one slip. They’re still chasing consistency, with back-to-back wins continuing to elude them, and have now dropped to 6th place. Up next in the 2025 Indian Premier League, the Delhi Capitals host the Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday, 16th April. The first ball is scheduled for 7.30 pm IST (2 pm GMT), but be sure to join us early for all the pre-match build-up. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Yuzvendra Chahal is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his stellar bowling performance. Chahal believes it was a complete team effort that led to the win. He mentions that they felt they were in the game once they picked up a couple of early wickets and it gave them the momentum to keep pushing. Mentions that the pitch wasn’t easy to bat on, with noticeable turn on offer. He mentions that his very first delivery turned sharply, prompting Shreyas Iyer to suggest having a slip in place, knowing they needed wickets to defend a low total. He adds that he has always had self-belief and constantly thinks about ways to dismiss batters. Shares that he varied his pace deliberately to make it harder for the batters to time their shots.
The captain of the Punjab Kings, Shreyas Iyer, is in for a chat. Says that he is finding it hard to put into words the feelings he had after the match. He highlights the importance of taking wickets to secure a victory and appreciates having the right players in the right positions on the field. During his batting innings, Iyer noticed the variable bounce of the pitch. He credits the bowlers for maintaining discipline, which ultimately led to their win. Iyer reveals that the team's hopes and expectations soared when Yuzvendra Chahal started turning the ball effectively, and from that moment on, they gained momentum. He emphasises the need for the team to stay humble and focused, ensuring this victory doesn't distract them from their future goals
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Ricky Ponting, PBKS Head Coach, reflects on the thrilling match, stating his heart rate is still high after the intense contest. He humorously mentions not wanting to be part of such games at his age, highlighting the unpredictability of the format. Ponting praises Yuzvendra Chahal's outstanding performance, noting that Chahal had overcome a shoulder injury to play a crucial role. Ponting commends his team's remarkable comeback in the second innings, expressing pride in their efforts. He acknowledges that even if they had lost, he wouldn't have been disheartened, given the team's performance. However, he feels that their decision-making with the bat left much to be desired. Ponting also discusses the team's strategy with the new ball, using Marco Jansen and Xavier Bartlett to exploit specific matchups. He describes the game as one of the best he's been part of.
The captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, Ajinkya Rahane, says he doesn’t have anything to explain. He says he takes the blame for this dismal effort. He says Angkrish wasn’t sure on the LBW where he (Rahane) was not out, as the impact was outside off. He says he wasn’t thinking about the net run rate at any time of the chase and he just was thinking to get those two points because the wicket wasn’t easy to bat. He says the PBKS batting lineup was strong and their bowlers did a good job to restrict them to such a low total. He says as an individual and team, they should be confident in such chases and should keep the intent going, but then, this wicket wasn’t the one where you can play across the line, so that is what went wrong. He says, at the moment, there are too many things going on in his head, and he will try to keep himself calm and think about what he will talk about in the dressing room. He mentions the tournament is a long one and it’s important to keep the confidence intact going ahead in the season.
Earlier, after the toss went in their favour, PBKS got off to a brisk start. Everything seemed on track as they were 39/0 in the 4th over, but once the opening stand was broken, it all went downhill for the home side. While some of the dismissals were a result of the bowler's skill, others were self-inflicted due to poor shot selection. Wickets fell at regular intervals, and no one could step up to halt the slide, a recurring theme on the night for both teams. Eventually, the Kings were bowled out for just 111. Harshit Rana inflicted the early damage, finishing with a three-wicket haul and emerging as KKR's standout bowler on the night. In the middle phase, it was the spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakaravarthy who combined to tighten the screws and dismantle the Kings' batting lineup.
At 62/2, KKR seemed to be in control, but the game took a turn with the departure of Rahane. He was given out LBW but chose not to review, only for the impact to turn out as outside off. Seizing the opportunity, the Kings pounced, with Yuzvendra Chahal leading the charge. Andre Russell kept KKR in the hunt with a few trademark blows, but with wickets falling regularly at the other end, he was left with too much to do. Chahal was the architect of Punjab's remarkable comeback, finishing with standout figures of 4 for 28 from his 4 overs.
After the bowlers did their job by skittling the Kings for just 111, the Knight Riders would have been aiming to chase the target down in 14.1 overs to go top of the table. However, they lost a couple of early wickets, giving the Kings a glimmer of hope. Ajinkya Rahane then brought a calming influence, while Angkrish Raghuvanshi eased the nerves with some well-timed boundaries.
UNREAL scenes in Mullanpur! Punjab Kings have just scripted one of the most jaw-dropping heists in the history of the Indian Premier League. Rising from the ashes in dramatic fashion, the Kings have defended the lowest-ever total in a full 20-over IPL game. The Kolkata Knight Riders, riding high after a strong bowling performance, have been left absolutely stunned. From the highs of a dominant first inning to being swept off their feet in the chase, this is a night KKR won’t forget anytime soon.

Marco Jansen To Andre Russell OUT!
OUT! CHOPPED ON! Exceptional piece of cricket and with this wicket, it is cricket that wins in the end. Back of a length wide outside off, Andre Russell looks to slog this across the line and gets it chopped back into the stumps off the inside edge. Dre Russ smashes his bat into the surface out of agony as PBKS win this thriller by 16 runs.
Anrich Nortje is the last man in, but all eyes will be on Andre Russell, who’s on strike at the start of the new over. With 17 runs needed, does he go for it with three big hits? Or will he trust Nortje to hold up his end? It’s a tricky call. Russell’s instinct is to go big, but with just one wicket in hand, the margin for error is razor thin. A slight hold-up in play as Nortje's bat does not pass the gauge test. The bat has been replaced, and we are good to go.

Arshdeep Singh To Vaibhav Arora OUT!
OUT! EDGED AND GONE! GOODNESS GRACIOUS ME! Arshdeep Singh has managed to get Vaibhav Arora edge one back to the keeper and PBKS just need one more to pull off one of the most insane victories in the history of IPL. Arshdeep comes from around the wicket and persists with that short-pitched ploy. Vaibhav Arora leans back and was looking to bail out of the impulsive poke at this one but gets a faint edge behind to Josh Inglis, who gathers this.

NEARLY DRAGGED ON! Yuzi tosses this one outside off, turning it away from Dre Russ. Andre stands stable and reaches out at it to go for a lofted drive. Gets an inside edge and it just fizzes past the stumps.
STRATEGIC BREAK! Phew... we all needed a breather, didn’t we? This game has flipped dramatically. At the start of the chase, KKR would have been dreaming of finishing it by 14.1 overs to leap to the top of the table but now, they’re staring down the barrel, with the pressure firmly back on them. From a comfortable 62/2, they’ve crumbled to 79/8. Yuzvendra Chahal was the one who sparked the collapse, and with one over still left in his spell, Shreyas Iyer will be hoping he can tempt Andre Russell into a mistake.

Slower through the air, a touch fuller, sliding down leg, Angkrish looks to flick it but can't get any bat on it. Wide given.
STRATEGIC BREAK! The tide of the game has shifted! PBKS's early pressure has dissipated, largely due to their errors. Misfields and an overthrow have gifted the opposing batters valuable runs, easing the pressure. That dropped catch of Angkrish Raghuvanshi is proving costly for PBKS. With 41 runs remaining, PBKS now need to take wickets to stay in the game, as this is still KKR's game to lose from here on. The strategic break might help them. Will PBKS regroup and make a comeback? Only time will tell.

FIVE RUNS added to the total! What is going on? This was a full delivery on pads. Venkatesh Iyer swept it along the ground to the left deep square leg, where Xavier Bartlett was stationed. Ball slips from Bartlett's hand near the boundary as he was throwing the ball back to the bowler and the ball trickles onto the ropes. You might be wondering why it’s been counted as five runs. That’s because Xavier had collected the throw cleanly, but by the time he did, the batters had already completed a run. As a result, the additional runs scored from the overthrow are added, making it five in total. It, in a way, sums up the night for PBKS.

Xavier Bartlett To Quinton de Kock OUT!
OUT! IN THE AIR AND TAKEN! Xavier Bartlett strikes with the second ball on his IPL debut! Just the start PBKS were after. Both KKR openers are back in the hut early. Swinging back into the left-hander, on a length, on the pads, Quinton de Kock looks to play the pick-up shot but gets a top edge that goes straight up towards deep backward square leg. The ball goes miles up in the air but Suryansh Shedge does well to settle under it and stabilise himself. Manages to hold onto a pressure catch.

Swinging back in, on the pads, full in length, Quinton de Kock misses the flick on the inside edge and gets rapped on the front pad. The replays show that the ball would have swung past the leg stump.
