Inn Break
Right then, that is it from this game and from this long and hotly-contested tour. It all started in Kolkata with the Test series, which South Africa won 2-0 and then a very closely-fought ODI series was snatched by India in the deciding 3rd game. We then had 5 T20Is as well, one of them was abandoned due to fog and eventually, India went on to win it 3-1. This also marks the end of international cricketing action for both these teams in 2025. The South African players will now head home to participate in the SA20, which begins on Boxing Day, whereas the Indians will enjoy a break during Christmas and the New Year before welcoming New Zealand for a white-ball series. We hope that you enjoyed our coverage. Until next time, take care and goodbye!
The captain of India, Suryakumar Yadav says the team played the brand of cricket they wanted to throughout the series, adding that this was the approach they had discussed coming into it. He explains that the plan with the ball was to use one over of Jasprit Bumrah in the Powerplay, then bring him back after the drinks break and again at the death. Suryakumar admits the team was challenged at times but feels this game is about how you bounce back. He describes it as a good, challenging series and says the team did everything they could. On a personal note, he concedes he couldn’t find his form but vows to come back stronger.
Varun Chakaravarthy is the Player of the Series for his brilliant efforts with the ball. He says that this was the best match of the series and he enjoyed it a lot. Says that he has been given the freedom to pick up wickets first and then look to contain. Further adds that he speaks to all the senior players in the team and tries to evolve his game. Ends by dedicating this award to his mom, dad and sister.
Hardik Pandya is the Player of the Match. He says he plays the sport to win games for his country, not for individual awards. Mentions that he only found out about scoring the second-fastest fifty later, after being told by the team’s social media head, and adds that he is happy that Yuvraj Singh holds the record. Pandya reveals that he told his teammates and his partner before the game that he was going to step out on the very first ball and backed himself to execute. Tells that George Linde bowled well to him in New Chandigarh, and that motivated him to take him on today. Adds that irrespective of how many times you are knocked down, it’s about coming back stronger, because the journey keeps going and the hard work never stops.
South Africa's captain, Aiden Markram says that 230 was always going to be tough but the top order set it up nicely for them and they simply couldn't get it done. Reckons that it was the left-right combination that made it tough for their bowlers and went with their gut feel with the bowling changes. Adds that it was a tough series and they know what they need to do if they want to win the World Cup and want to find ways in which they can improve. Ends by saying that they tried different combinations in this series but have the answers now.
The Presentation ceremony...
Tilak Varma is up for a chat. He says he knows the wicket well here and felt, from the way the openers played, that it was a good surface for batting. Adds that his plan was to show intent and keep the momentum going. Tilak heaps praise on Hardik Pandya, calling his batting incredible and a treat to watch from the other end. Varma reveals that they were targeting a score in the region of 230-240 and is pleased they managed to get a strong total on the board. Mentions that he is working hard on his bowling and jokes that it’s probably better to ask Suryakumar Yadav about his bowling opportunities.
Earlier in the game, Aiden Markram won the toss and went against the recent record of teams winning batting first, as he stuck to the general norm of opting to bowl first. This didn't work out all that well for South Africa, as barring Lungi Ngidi, all the other pacers struggled. Sanju Samson looked in pristine touch even after being out of the Playing XI for a while and then the twin half-centuries from Tilak Varma and especially Hardik Pandya propelled India to a huge total. George Linde bowled really well but let it slip in the final over. Overall, it was carnage out there in the first innings.
South Africa were heading into a rut and needed some inspiration from their skipper and an experienced figure like David Miller. However, Aiden Markram got out playing a cheeky shot and Varun Chakaravarthy made merry by castling Donovan Ferreira on the very next ball. South Africa continued to push but the wickets continued to tumble and in the end, it was a bridge too far for the tailenders.
Dewald Brevis was promoted to number 3 and he matched de Kock shot for shot, taking South Africa to 118/1 after 10 overs. At this stage, the Proteas looked in control to chase the big total down but a break in play, along with the ball being changed, just switched things up. Jasprit Bumrah showed his class again as he broke the vital stand and then Hardik Pandya followed it with the dismissal of the other set batter.
Coming back to this contest, it was always going to be a huge ask chasing 232 runs but Quinton de Kock got the Proteas off to a flying start by taking on Arshdeep Singh. However, Washington Sundar kept things tidy at the other end and Reeza Hendricks couldn't break free, eventually falling prey to an in-form Varun Chakaravarthy.
What an ending to a memorable all-format tour but it is India who end a prolific 2025 year in T20I cricket with yet another series win. South Africa pushed the hosts all throughout the tour but have come out second best in both white-ball formats after having dominated the Test matches.

Jasprit Bumrah To Marco Jansen OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT BEHIND! India get the review right and this is a crushing blow to the Proteas. Bumrah rolls his fingers over the ball and keeps it full, outside off. Jansen gets low and stays leg side of the ball. He tries to thrash it through the off side but is undone by the slowness of the delivery. It is gathered behind by Sanju Samson. A muted appeal from Jasprit Bumrah but he gets no support from anyone else. Samson checks with the skipper regarding the number of reviews. Suryakumar Yadav wants to take a chance. The UltraEdge shows a scratch when the ball is next to the bat and while the bat did hit the turf, it was after the ball had passed the blade. The on-field decision is reversed. Jansen falls for 14.

Aiden Markram has a word with David Miller and does take the review. The third umpire is called in, there's nothing on UltraEdge. This is bowled a bit slower too and Quinton de Kock closes the bat face early as he looks to flick it away. A full toss, angled in towards middle stump. Brevis looks to clip it leg side but miscues it back past the bowler for a quick single. The 50-run stand is up between these two and in double-quick time as well.
DRINKS BREAK! Wow, 42 runs for South Africa in the last 2 overs and they are actually ahead of the required rate at the halfway stage. However, the break in play couldn't come at a worse time for them as this will take at least some sting out of this excellent hitting from Quinton de Kock and Dewald Brevis. India have bowled well in patches so far but have conceded too many boundaries and they need a couple of wickets right after the break to ease the pressure a bit. Still, plenty of action left in this final game and both teams are well and truly still in the mix. The ball has gotten too wet and that has prompted the umpires to change it. The fourth umpire is out with the box of replacement balls. Can India make anything work out of this dry ball?

Varun Chakaravarthy To Reeza Hendricks OUT!
OUT! CAUGHT! Nonchalantly done by Shivam Dube. Reeza Hendricks falls for a low score yet again. Googly from Varun, short and around the pads. Reeza presses on the back foot and gets his hands out in front. Looks to work it away with the spin but the ball appears to have stopped on him. Hendricks ends up chipping it uppishly wide of mid-wicket, where Dube moves to his left and sticks out his left hand. The ball sticks in his grasp and Varun cannot quite believe how Shivam managed to pull it off.

Washington Sundar To Quinton de Kock
A good effort from Samson but de Kock is safe! Speared in from around the wicket by Sundar. He spots de Kock back away and fires it in to tuck him up for room. Quinton swings at it and his back leg gets dragged out of the crease. The ball sneaks past the inside edge and Sanju Samson is quick to get across to his right. Samson collects it cleanly and whips the bails off. The third umpire is called in but the replays find QDK to be safe as he was quick to plonk his back leg inside the crease before the stumps were broken.
Is that stumped? That was brilliant from Sanju Samson and he feels that he has got his man. The third umpire is called into action. The replays roll in and we can see that the ball was collected just behind the stumps but Quinton de Kock did well to get his back foot inside the crease before the bails were whipped off. NOT OUT!
