India beat South Africa by 7 wickets
Such has been the theme of this series that across the three games so far, it has largely been one-way traffic, with whichever side takes control going on to win comfortably. Let’s hope the next two fixtures treat us to more competitive contests. The caravan now shifts to Lucknow, with the fourth T20I set to take place at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, 17th December. The first ball will be bowled at 7 pm IST (1.30 pm GMT), but as always, our build-up will begin much earlier. Until then, take care and goodbye!
Arshdeep Singh is the PLAYER OF THE MATCH for his brilliance with the ball. He had figures of 2 for 13 from his 4 overs. Arshdeep says it was about doing the basics right and trusting his skillset. Feels the last game was a one-off and is pleased to have bounced back the way he did. Adds that nothing really changed for him, as it was simply about pitching the ball in the right areas and getting some help from the surface. On a personal note, he says he would like to dedicate the award to his 10-month-old niece, who is present tonight.
The Indian captain, Suryakumar Yadav, is all smiles. He says that this sport teaches you a lot of things and that it is a great leveller as well. Mentions how you come back into the series is what matters the most. Shares that there were a lot of learnings from the last game and they had a good team meeting as well. Highlights that they went back to the basics. About his lean run with the bat, he states that he is batting beautifully in the nets and is trying to do what's under his control. Is hopeful that the runs will come soon, and ends by saying that he is definitely not out of form, but a bit short of runs.
The captain of South Africa, Aiden Markram, says it was tough upfront, with India bowling in the right areas, and before they knew it, they were four or five down. Credits the Indian pacers for bowling Test-match lengths and feels they did not give the batters much to score. If the conditions are similar again, he admits they will have to find better ways to counter it. Shares that he planned to take the game deep and try to make a play at the end. Adds that a total in the region of 140-150 would have kept them well in the contest. Mentions that he does not want the team to dwell on this loss too much, even though he will look for answers. In conditions like these, he feels you cannot hit everything and have to pick your options carefully. He stresses that he never wants to curb players or use negative language. Believes that each individual will take lessons from this game and come back better. Speaking about Abhishek Sharma, he says he was always likely to play that way, and admits South Africa did not land the ball in the right areas early on. Once they corrected that, they were much better and managed to stretch the game, which he takes as a positive.
Time for the presentation ceremony...
Varun Chakaravarthy is up for a quick chat with the broadcasters. On being informed about him completing 50 T20I wickets, he starts by admitting that he didn't know that he reached that milestone. Highlights that there was a lot of help for the seamers and that he never played at this venue before. Also admits that he found it a bit challenging in chilly conditions of Dharamsala. Shares that they did have some bowling meetings and honest conversations about what went wrong in the second T20I. Detials that those were two-way talks and went really well. On being asked about how he planned to bowl on this surface, where there was help for the pacers, he details that the ball was skidding more rather than turning, so he just tried to keep the stumps in play. After being made aware that he is the second-fastest Indian bowler to get to 50 wickets in the format, he ends by saying it feels good as long as he is playing for the country and picking up wickets.
Earlier, after being asked to bat first, South Africa never really got going with the bat. Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana extracted movement off the deck and through the air to dent the Proteas inside the Powerplay. The tourists were never allowed to recover from those early setbacks as Varun Chakaravarthy, Shivam Dube and Hardik Pandya combined to pile on the misery. Aiden Markram fought a lone battle as wickets fell around him, but he eventually perished in his attempt to push the total higher. Markram’s 61 was the lone highlight for the visitors in a batting effort that saw them fold for 117. While Arshdeep Singh stood out in the pace department, Varun Chakaravarthy excelled in the spin department, with both picking up two wickets each and giving nothing away.
Having put only 117 on the board, the South African quicks needed to replicate what their Indian counterparts had done, and perhaps do even better if they were to have any chance. The conditions were there to be exploited, but Lungi Ngidi was all over the place in the opening over, and the rest also struggled to hit their straps. That allowed Abhishek Sharma to break the back of the chase early, with India racing to 60 in 5 overs. The Proteas did manage to stretch the game a little after removing Abhishek, as Shubman Gill had a scratchy stay and Tilak Varma was not at his fluent best, but Abhishek’s early fireworks meant the result was never really in doubt.
India bounce back from a crushing defeat in a comprehensive fashion. This win gives them the lead with two games to go. As for South Africa, they simply did not turn up with the bat, and one is left wondering whether the constant chopping and changing with an eye on the World Cup is really doing them any good. The track did show that even with the older ball, there was enough in it to keep the pacers interested, and had Aiden Markram received some support, the contest might have looked very different.

DRINKS BREAK! Just the last rites remain to be written in this game. It has been one-way traffic, and not only have South Africa failed to get the early wickets they desperately needed, but they have also not made the best use of the conditions on offer. Shubman Gill has had his share of luck, but on a personal note, he will want to be there right till the end, and that will serve him well.

Marco Jansen To Shubman Gill
Given LBW but successfully overturned by Shubman Gill! Swinging back into the right-hander, on a good length, on middle. Gill plays all around it as he looks to keep it out off the back foot. The finger goes up immediately on the appeal for LBW. There were two sounds and Shubman Gill has reviewed it. The ball actually brushes the front pad first before going to hit him on the back pad. Looks like that resulted in the double sound. Oh, no, there is a scratch on UltraEdge when the ball is next to the bat. The on-field decision is overturned.

Lungi Ngidi To Abhishek Sharma
FOUR! Flayed away! Ngidi continues to be a bit too short, on off, Abhishek shimmies down the track and slaps it over cover for a boundary. This has so far been a far from ideal first over from South Africa's perspective. 16 runs knocked off already.

Lungi Ngidi To Abhishek Sharma
Not in control, but Abhishek gets away with it! At 132.5 kph, angling away, on a back of a length. Abhishek goes through with the shot despite being nowhere near the pitch of the ball. He swings to go back over the bowler's head, and the bottom hand comes off the handle. Gets enough bat on it to clear the mid on fielder and collects a couple of runs.
