MOEEN ALI, MAN OF THE MATCH says they gave themselves some time. Adds that Afghanistan bowled really well and it was difficult to bat on. Admits he bowled slow and is disappointed with that but at the same time is happy as he still managed to scalp a crucial wicket. Ends by saying he is happy as they got the job done for the team.
Afghanistan did well with the leather but just couldn't do it with the willow. They showed poor communication when it came to running between the wickets and had two run outs in the innings. They were aggressive in batting but couldn't hold the momentum and they fumbled. It was only Shenwari and Shafiqullah who batted well for their side to keep them in the hunt, but since there was no good partnership or support from the other batsmen, the Afghans ended up with a nervy defeat. Afghanistan's hope to make it through ends here. But England with this win move to second place in the points table.
What a comeback by England in the second innings. They struggled in their batting but still managed to put a decent score on the board for their bowlers to defend. David Willey was outstanding today, both with the bat and ball. He contributed valuable partnership with Moeen Ali and also picked up two wickets. The leggie, Adil Rashid also bowled an impressive spell of three overs and scalped two wickets.
