Batsman | R | B | 4s | 6s | SR |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Aaron Finch C | 41 | 63 | 4 | 0 | 65.07 |
b Dwaine Pretorius
20.2 OUT! Chops it on! Big wicket for South Africa. Finch fails to convert his start again. Bowls an off cutter outside off stump, Aaron wanted to cut towards third man but because the ball was slow Finch was early into the shot and hence, got an inside edge onto the stumps. 96/3
Travis Head | 8 | 7 | 2 | 0 | 114.28 |
lbw b Lungi Ngidi
3.2 OUT! LBW! That is the plumbest of LBWs one would get. Waste, total waste from Head and Finch. Full and around off, swinging in, Travis looks to flick but misses it, falling over in the process and getting hit on the pads. Ngidi almost does not appeal at all and starts to celebrate, because it was that plumb. Still, for formalities, he starts to appeal. The umpire raises his finger immediately. Head walks across to Finch and then decides to review but Hawk Eye proves him to be totally wrong. Finch has not been the best when it comes to reviews. Did not review one in Perth when he should have and now, agreed with Head to review one when he should have let it be. Early strike again for South Africa. 12/1
Shaun Marsh | 22 | 26 | 2 | 0 | 84.61 |
c Quinton de Kock b Kagiso Rabada
11.5 OUT! Caught behind! Rabada has broken through. Australia were just starting to put pressure on South Africa and the young bloke has just reversed it. On a length outside off, Marsh looks to push at that but there is extra bounce on the ball. As a result, an outside edge is induced which is taken by Quinton de Kock. Needless to say, Kagiso is pumped up. The 54-run stand is broken. 66/2
Chris Lynn | 44 | 44 | 3 | 2 | 100 |
c Quinton de Kock b Kagiso Rabada
26.5 OUT! Rabada has the last laugh! Bowls another bouncer, Lynn wanted to go towards square leg but does not get the pull shot right and he gets a glove behind to the keeper. Good catch by Quinton de Kock. Lynn was cramped by pace and bounce there. 133/4
Alex Carey Wk | 47 | 72 | 4 | 0 | 65.27 |
c Quinton de Kock b Kagiso Rabada
44.2 OUT! Nice innings comes to an end from Alex Carey. Rabada bowls a cross seam delivery outside off stump, Carey wanted to go towards third man but got an outside edge to the keeper. Rabada gets his third wicket. 204/9
Glenn Maxwell | 15 | 19 | 1 | 0 | 78.94 |
c Quinton de Kock b Dwaine Pretorius
33.2 OUT! Caught behind! There comes the brash shot. And the Big Show is gone for a small display. Short and outside off, Maxwell flashes hard for the cut. And edges it behind. No, it is not a bad shot on a good ball. Just that Maxi went way too early. Pretorius smartly bowled a slower delivery and that consumed Maxwell. Caught behind by de Kock. An innings beginning to blossom has been cut short again. 166/5
Marcus Stoinis | 2 | 9 | 0 | 0 | 22.22 |
c Reeza Hendricks b Dwaine Pretorius
35.2 OUT! Another one goes! The wickets just keep tumbling and Pretorius has his third wicket in the space of 25 balls. A length ball, around off, Stoinis looks to pull but is done in by the length, That was not there for the pull. He though, goes through with the shot and mistimes it. The ball goes off the inner half, towards mid-wicket where Reeza Hendricks leaps to his right and just about catches it, in the fingertips of his left hand. 170/6
Pat Cummins | 3 | 8 | 0 | 0 | 37.5 |
b Dale Steyn
38.3 OUT! BOWLED! Cummins is gone too. Drags it onto his stumps. That target of 200 is still on. Only, that is for the Saffas, not for the Aussies. Fast and fiery from Steyn, 145.5 kph, it is landed on a length, but Cummins is not sure whether to come forward or play it from his crease. He does neither and goes half-heartedly at it. Is late, gets beaten by pace and the ball trickles off the under edge onto the off stump. 179/7
Mitchell Starc | 6 | 6 | 1 | 0 | 100 |
c & b Dale Steyn
40.5 OUT! Caught and bowled! 8th wicket down for Australia. Steyn has his second in as many overs. Bowls a slow bouncer outside off stump, Starc wanted to defend but the ball bounced suddenly and he cannot do anything. Gets a top edge which goes straight up in the air and the bowler takes a simple catch. 187/8
Adam Zampa | 22 | 24 | 2 | 0 | 91.66 |
c David Miller b Kagiso Rabada
48.3 OUT! Australia have not managed to play their full quota of 50 overs again. Rabada gets his fourth wicket. Bowls a short of a length delivery, Zampa backs away but the bowler follows him, cramping him for room. The Aussie tries to pull but gets a top edge on this one. The ball goes high in the air and Miller takes the catch at short mid-wicket. Australia bowled out for 231. 231/10

Quinton de Kock Wk | 9 | 12 | 1 | 0 | 75 |
c Adam Zampa b Mitchell Starc
4.1 OUT! A soft dismissal! Well o well. Australia needed an early wicket and it is not Starc who has provided it. De Kock has gifted his wicket away. A loose delivery, down the leg side, could have put away anywhere. De Kock connects his flick well but to his horror, he finds Adam Zampa to perfection at long leg! No one can believe what has happened. A struggling Starc is sheepish. Zampa cannot believe either that the ball has come straight to him. De Kock is so frustrated that the batsmen do not even cross! 214 more needed from 275 balls. 18/1
Reeza Hendricks | 16 | 27 | 1 | 0 | 59.25 |
c Alex Carey b Josh Hazlewood
10.1 OUT! Caught behind! Oh dear and then they were three. Probably the best ball of the chase. On a length it is, in the corridor of Hazlewood. Which means, that corridor of uncertainty, the avenue of apprehension. Should I play? Should I let it go? Hendricks is in that conundrum as well. Feels for it, then wants to take his bat away. Too late. The ball takes the outside edge and Alex Carey does the rest after appealing. They check for the overstepping but Josh is just fine. Reckon that the Saffas are in a small bit of a wobble here. 184 more needed from 239 balls. 48/3
Aiden Markram | 19 | 17 | 2 | 1 | 111.76 |
run out (Marcus Stoinis)
9.1 OUT! Markram is short! Another bonus wicket for Australia. But the fielding was pretty good on this occasion - the throw, even better. A length ball, around middle, Hendricks worked it through mid-wicket and jogged across. The batsmen take two easily and Markram was watching at the non-striker's end, towards his partner. He did not take a start at all and then began running after Hendricks came halfway through. Marcus Stoinis gave it a good chase from short mid-wicket and released a powerful throw. Clean and straight it came, towards the keeper. Alex Carey was ready, waiting for the throw and removed the bails. Markram had dived in his crease but seemed to be short. It got referred upstairs and replays are interesting. Aiden would have got in with a dive but while diving, the bat went in the air. Inside the crease but in the air. Tough luck. 46/2
Faf du Plessis C | 47 | 65 | 3 | 0 | 72.30 |
b Pat Cummins
29.2 OUT! Dragged on and Cummins has got the big fish! This game gets alive again. On a length outside off, Faf looks to punch it through the off side but the ball comes slow and stays low. An inside edge is induced and then comes a sound which no batsman wants to hear. Timberrrrr. Excellent knock from Faf du Plessis, but now, Australia will believe that they are back in this. 142/5
Heinrich Klaasen | 14 | 17 | 2 | 0 | 82.35 |
c Chris Lynn b Marcus Stoinis
14.4 OUT! Number 4 down and another one gifted away. A short ball, around off, not much pace, Klaasen looks to pull but cannot keep it down, nor can he find the gap. Hits it right into the lap of Chris Lynn at short mid-wicket. Australia keep getting these bonus wickets. A little bit of a troublesome situation now. 164 more needed from 212 balls. 68/4
David Miller | 51 | 71 | 3 | 1 | 71.83 |
lbw b Marcus Stoinis
43.3 OUT! That is out! The umpire has to reverse his decision! Well, that is really surprising. I mean, just figure this out. Miller is batting outside his crease. Then, he walks down the track to flick, which means he has nearly covered half the pitch distance. Misses his flick to a length ball and is hit on the pads. Stoinis appeals but umpire Gough stays calm. Not to be blamed, because that did look not out to the naked eye. But Stoinis is desperate. He asks Carey and the keeper says that it pitched outside leg, Probably not sure about the height either. But a frustrated Marcus just ignores him and pleads with his captain to go for the review. Finch agrees. And voila! Hawk Eye shows it to be dead plumb! What happened to the 3-metre rule? One would say, a lucky, lucky wicket for Australia. But they will take it. Miller walks back shaking his head. Might just be the final nail in the coffin. 45 more needed from 39 balls. 187/8
Dwaine Pretorius | 14 | 32 | 0 | 0 | 43.75 |
c Chris Lynn b Josh Hazlewood
38.2 OUT! And Finch gets a wicket! Not of Miller but he will take any wicket for now. Hazlewood has struck. A short ball outside off, Pretorius looks to pull but the bounce does him in. He is cramped for room and the ball limps of the top edge, towards short mid-wicket where Chris Lynn runs a few yards to his right and takes a simple catch. A decent 32-run stand has been broken. South Africa just need their players to bat around Miller. 58 needed from 70. 174/6
Dale Steyn | 3 | 11 | 0 | 0 | 27.27 |
b Marcus Stoinis
41.4 OUT! BOWLED! Stoinis roars! Australia get a chance to celebrate again. A length ball again, outside off, Steyn stays back to try and work it to the leg side. But the ball keeps low, takes the under edge and lights up the zinc bails! Australia need 3 wickets. South Africa need 48 from 50 balls. Miller is still there in the middle. Oh... you don't want to go anywhere else, do you? 184/7
Kagiso Rabada | 9 | 17 | 0 | 0 | 52.94 |
b Mitchell Starc
47.1 OUT! KABOOM! Bowled! That is a Starc special. Australia have been wanting that. It has taken a long time but eventually it has come. That ripping inswinger from outside off, curling in, not even allowing the bat to come down and then goes under. Right onto the stumps. 202/9
