India's boxing star Vijender Singh, who made a sensational start to his professional boxing career, was invited to the House of Commons by British MP Keith Vaz MP in London on Wednesday.
The Beijing Olympic bronze medallist turned 30 on Thursday. In an hour-long meeting held at the Chess Room of the British Parliament, Vaz congratulated Vijender Singh for winning his professional debut fight and wished him luck for his second fight.
Vijender made an immediate impact in his professional debut, earlier this month, when he destroyed Sonny Whiting in three rounds at the Manchester Arena.
The former World No. 1 Indian was declared the winner through a technical knockout. In his second bout, Vijender will go toe to toe with England's Dean Gillen in Dublin on November 7.
Vijender was upbeat about his bout at the Harrow Leisure Centre. (Vijender Singh to Face Firefighter Dean Gillan in Second Pro-Boxing Match)
"I have trained in Ireland before the 2012 Olympics and it was fun. I am looking forward to my fight in Dublin next Saturday. I am sure Indian community in Dublin will turn up in large numbers to cheer and support me," said the Bhiwani boxer.
Vijender thanked Vaz for inviting him to the House of Commons on a special day.
