Batting first, Australia scored 132 for seven in 19 overs.
Taking full advantage of the overcast conditions, Indian pacers rattled the Australian top order.
Medium pacer Khaleel Ahmed took two wickets for India but was a little on the expensive side.
Spinner Kuldeep Yadav (4-0-23-1) bowled superbly in the middle overs to restrict Australia.
Middle-order batsman Ben McDermott (32 not out) played a handy cameo under pressure to help Australia post a fighting target.
With the second encounter ending in no result, Australia still lead the three-match T20I series 1-0 against India.
