Thailand's 20-year-old sprinter Puripol Boonson has just won gold in the men's 100m by smashing the Games record! He completes the 100m in just 9.90s. He had broken the Games record in the semi-finals with a time of 9.91s, but he's bettered that in the final.

Damneet Singh and Praveen Kumar both fail to make it to the top eight in the men's hammer throw final, after their first three attempts, meaning they will no longer take part. That's the end of India's athletics events for the day.

Superb stuff from Vishal TK, he sprints into the men's 400m final by finishing first in Heat 2! Vishal blitzes it in 45.27s. He will be one to watch out for in the final!

The final athletics event of the day concerning India is about to start. Vishal TK, who won mixed 4x400m relay silver yesterday, is taking part in Heat 2 of the men's 400m. 

Despite not finishing in the top two in Heat 3, Prachi Choudhary also qualifies for the women's 400m final as one of the two best-placed non top two finishers. 

India will have two representatives in the final!

Brilliant run by Kiran Pahal, and she secures her spot in the women's 400m final! She finishes second in the women's 400m Heat 2, and automatically qualifies for the final.

India's Prachi Choudhary will take part in Heat 3.

Baranica Elangovan has won bronze in women's pole vault! A historic moment, as it is India's FIRST-EVER pole vault medal at the Asian Games, across genders. 

Kazakhstan's Polina Ivanova also did the same jump and has the same countback, so looks like they will both bag bronze.

Unfortunately, Sindhushree Ganesha failed to set a mark.

India's Baranica Elangovan is in position to win bronze in the women's pole vault final. She has achieved a best mark of 4.15m, but has failed to clear 4.25m.

She needs those behind her to not manage to clear 4.15m. If that happens, Baranica will clinch bronze!

Here's the final standings of the men's 10,000m final. Gulveer Singh narrowly missing out on gold.

Medal alert! Silver for Gulveer Singh in the men's 10,000m final! He took the challenge to Bahrain's Birhanu Balew, but ultimately finished 1.87s behind. 

Gulveer continues to make India proud on the big stage. Two medals at CWG 2026, now silver at Asian Games 2026!

We are more than halfway through the men's 10,000m final. Gulveer Singh is still right up there in the fight for gold. He has the best season best among anyone in the field, so the chances of at least a medal is very high.

India's final medal event of the day is underway! Damneet Singh and Praveen Kumar are representing the nation in the men's hammer throw final.

3,000m out of the 10,000m final have been completed by the athletes. Gulveer is right up there with the lead pack, and is running in third at the time of writing. 

The men's 10,000m final is about to begin in around five minutes. Gulveer Singh, who won silver in this category at the Commonwealth Games, will be carrying India's medal hopes once again.

Pooja and Anamika miss out on medals in the heptathlon. Overall, they finish sixth and eighth respectively. 

Here are the final standings:

A great performance by the two Indian athletes in the 800m event of the heptathlon. Pooja finishes second, narrowly behind the race-winner. Anamika is not far behind, and she finishes third.

India's Anamika and Pooja are competing in the 800m race at the heptathlon. It's the final event. The duo need a big result to enter medal contention.

Time to switch focus to the women's pole vault final, where India have two competitors in Sindhushree Ganesha and Baranica Elangovan. Will India be able to get another medal?

Manpreet Kaur bags bronze in women's shot put! Her fourth throw of 17.17m helps her secure the bronze medal, and India's first athletics medal of the day!

Krishna Jayasankar Menon, India's other competitor in the event, finishes fifth with a best throw of 16.57m.

Animesh Kujur also does not manage to qualify for the men's 100m final. He comes seventh in Heat 3 of the semi-finals with a time of 10.38s. Despite having the best reaction time in the field, he never managed to accelerate beyond his rivals.

End of a disappointing men's 100m campaign for India at Asian Games 2026.

Gurindervir Singh finishes fifth in Heat 2 of the men's 100m semi-finals, meaning he will NOT QUALIFY for the final later today. He finishes with a time of 10.32s. 

Focus now turns to Animesh Kujur in Heat 3 of the semi-finals.

Another superb throw from Manpreet Kaur, and she improves her hold on the bronze medal spot. A brilliant 17.17m throw on her fourth attempt.

Gurvinder Singh is on the track, and the men's 100m semi-final is about to begin! India's national record holder the centre of attention, can he make it? Top two in the heat to guarantee his spot in the final.

The highly-anticipated men's 100m semis will take place shortly. Gurindervir Singh, India's national record holder, will take part in Heat 2. Animesh Kujur, who was actually quicker than Gurindervir yesterday, will be in Heat 3. 

Will we see both Indians qualifying for the final? Top two in each heat, and the two fastest overall apart from them will all qualify for the final.

Good throw from Manpreet Kaur, and she replaces Jayasankar Menon in the bronze medal spot! 16.80m throw from the 36-year-old. 

Jayankar Menon drops to fifth as South Korea's Yu Sun Jeong improves with a throw of 16.60m!

No improvements for either Manpreet Kaur or Jayasankar Menon on their second attempts, and the latter remains in the bronze medal position. 

The lead at the top has extended further, with China's Jiayuan Song coming up with a season best throw of 19.40m!

First throws for Manpreet Kaur and Krishna Jayasankar Menon in the women's shot put final. Manpreet throws 16.32m to go third. Jayasankar then replaces her in third with a 16.57m throw.

China's Jiayuan Song is in the gold medal position with a throw of 19.08m. Her compatriot Linru Zhang is in the silver spot with a throw of 18.14m.

India's first athletics medal event of the day is about to get underway. Attention turns to Manpreet Kaur and Krishna Jayasankar Menon in in the women's shot put final. Action is about to begin in less than 10 minutes!

India can win as many as nine medals in athletics today at Asian Games 2026. First up, Manpreet Kaur and Krishna Jayashankar Menon will take part in the women's shot put final.

Sindhushree Ganesha and Baranica Elangovan will take part in the women's pole vault final. Damneet Singh and Praveen Kumar will participate in the the men's hammer throw final.

On the track, Gulveer Singh is in the men's 10,000m final, while Gurindervir Singh and Animesh Kujur could qualify for the men's 100m final.
