Asian Games: Indian Women's Ties, Men Lose in Handball
The Indian women's team will now play their third and final match of the Asian Games against China on Monday.
The Indian handball contingent experienced a mixed Sunday at the Asian Games here with the women's team forcing a come-from-behind 26-26 tie against Thailand while the men suffered a second straight defeat, going down 19-39 to hosts South Korea in their respective preliminary round matches. The men, having lost 20-39 against Chinese Taipei in the first match Saturday, trailed 6-21 in the first half but managed to reduce the deficit.
However, they couldn't mastermind a turnaround and lost the post-break session 13-18 at the Seonhak Handball Gymnasium.
They are scheduled to face Japan in their third and final Group D match Monday.
Later, the women were trailing 10-15 after the first half but rallied to equalise in the second session with a score of 16-11, forcing a tie in their Group A match at the Suwon Gymnasium.
The women had lost 11-47 to hosts South Korea in their first match Saturday. They will play their third and final match against China Monday.
