Asian Games: Chain Singh Gives India Bronze in Men's 50m 3-Position Rifle

Chain Singh shot a total of 441.7 points to finish behind two Chinese shooters - Cao Yifei and Zhu Qinan - who bagged the first and second positions with 455.5 and 455.2 points to their credit, respectively.

Chain Singh won a bronze medal in 50m Rifle 3 Positions Men's Finals, even as India narrowly missed out on a third-place finish in men's team event of the Asian Games here on Saturday. (Day 8 Blog)

Singh shot a total of 441.7 points to finish behind two Chinese shooters - Cao Yifei and Zhu Qinan - who bagged the first and second positions with 455.5 and 455.2 points to their credit, respectively.

While Singh had entered the finals after finishing seventh in the qualification round, his more fancied compatriots, Gagan Narang and Sanjeev Rajput had failed to make the final cut, ending on 12th and 15th spots, respectively in the qualifiers.

Only top eight shooters in the qualification round advanced to the final round.

Earlier, India narrowly missed out on a bronze medal in 50m Rifle 3 Positions men's team finals after the trio of Narang, Chain Singh and Rajput finish fourth in the event.

The Indian team spearheaded by London Olympics bronze medallist Narang fell short by just one point to finish behind Japan, who bagged the bronze.

India scored 1153 in kneeling, 1185 in prone and 1142 in standing for a total of 3480. While Japan did better in kneeling with 1167 points, they were behind India in both prone and standing events with 1177 and 1137 points, respectively. But at the end, the Japanese men could prevail over the Indians on the basis of their total score of 3481.

China won the gold with 3502 points, while Korea bagged the silver with 3484.
