Cristiano Ronaldo has recently been in the news for lots of reasons. Be it for winning his third Ballon d'Or, getting suspended for slapping an opponent on the field or having just turned 30, the Portuguese forward has a knack to grab the headlines and this time it is academic in nature. According to a report in espnfc.com, the Real Madrid star's rise to international fame has prompted a university in Canada to offer a course that revolves around Ronaldo, his celebrity status and influence in society.
Luis Aguiar, who teaches sociology at the University of British Columbia, first got the idea when he saw the effect Ronaldo had on the entire country of Portugal during the 2014 FIFA World Cup. (Cristiano Ronaldo Returns for Real Madrid vs Atletico Madrid)
Now, Aguiar has formed a fourth-year course which studies global citizenship focussing on Ronaldo's influence in different parts on the world.
