Team India wanted a win for Sachin and the country and on Saturday, they defeated Sri Lanka to claim the title of World Champions and take the coveted trophy.

Yuvraj Singh, with four Man of the Match awards in the tournament, has had an excellent run with the bat as well as with the ball. He was adjudged as the player of the tournament.

Skipper MS Dhoni had a quiet tournament till Saturday but a fluent and an unbeaten knock of 91 runs to take his team to the ultimate victory made him the man of the match.

Sachin Tendulkar receives the winners medal from ICC Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat. The match on Saturday may well have been his last appearance in a World Cup.

The Little Master also received a rousing applause from the Wankhede crowd after the match and finished the tournament as the second highest run scorer, after Tillakaratne Dilshan.

Despite a fighting 48 from Kumar Sangakkara, the runners up medal is all that his team could take from the match. Sri Lanka's performance in the tournament though has been far from average and the skipper will take a lot of positives from it.

Muttiah Muralitharan, who played his final ODI in the World Cup final, accepts the runners up medal at the post match presentation ceremony after his team lost to India by 6 wickets.

For India though, the win is a not just a reflection of their title as the World's best team but a side that has the perfect blend youth and experience to continue their immaculate form.
