India vs West Indies: Hosts battle to a win

Indian pacers did the job for the team, for most parts of the innings. Umesh Yadav and Vinay Kumar reduced the West Indies batting to a paltry 63/5 in 16.1 overs.

Ravichandran Ashwin gave India a crucial breakthrough when he dismissed dangerous Kieron Pollard (35) and broke a steady 56-run sixth wicket partnership between Pollard and Lendl Simmons. Simmons went on to play a crucial innings of 78 of 102 balls before he was run out by Parthiv Patel.

That is when the joy for the hosts came to an abrupt end. Ravi Rampaul came to the middle and whacked his way to a 66-ball 86.

In spite of an aggressive bowling performance by the Indians, the gritty batting from Lendl Simmons, Kieron Pollard and Ravi Rampaul helped West Indies cross the 250-run mark.

Rampaul managed to topple the highest individual total for a batsman coming in at number 10. He had a partnership of 99* with Kemar Roach (24*). WI posted 269/9 in 50.

The good fortune continued as the bowlers gave Sammy's side a perfect start. Kemar Roach dismissed Parthiv Patel early to send alarm bells ringing.

The skies opened up soon after and the match was delayed by close to an hour.

Once the match began, India looked to take the aggressive stance but Sehwag was finally dismissed, Marlon Samuels removing him on 26.

Kohli though had other intentions and a sensible tactic to execute those intentions. Supported by Rohit Sharma, he took the match with his brilliant 117. India won by 5 wickets.
