"Gambhir complained of pain in the back. The Delhi and District Cricket Association had informed Apollo Hospital in Ahmedabad to do the scan," an informed source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
Gambhir, who went back to Delhi after playing in the second ODI against the West Indies at Vishakapatnam, had reached here late last night.
The Delhi cricketer also underwent a scan of the skull that he had hurt while fielding during the Test series in England and suffered blurred vision for a while and eventually missed the subsequent ODI series.
Gambhir was off the field today for more than ten overs and was substituted by Ajinkya Rahane.
India captain Virender Sehwag, however, said he was not aware that his teammate went for a scan. "But he played a match," he pointed out after the game.
