Marlon Samuels played a brilliant innings of 48 but was dismissed by a sharp inswinging delivery from Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
Bhuvneshwar, playing his first Test in a year and a half, got rid of Jermaine Blackwood, Shane Dowrich and Jason Holder in quick succession as the Windies slumped from 201/3 to 225 all out.
Bhuvneshwar finished with impressive figures of 23.4-10-33-5.
Led by Ajinkya Rahane, Indian fielders hardly dropped a catch or gave away extra runs.
In reply, Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul gave India a brisk start as the duo added 49 runs inside eight overs.
Miguel Cummins then removed Rahul and Virat Kohli in a span of three overs to leave India in a spot of bother.
But an unbeaten 85-run partnership between Rahane and Rohit Sharma revived India's innings and helped them end Day 4 with an overall lead of 285.
