All India Tennis Association president Amit Khanna on Wednesday decided that Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi would play together in the men's doubles event in the Doha Asian Games. The duo is the top seeds for the event.Bhupathi will also play the mixed doubles with Shikha Uberoi, where the pair is seeded second. Earlier in the day Paes and Bhupathi played a practice match for 90 minutes. "Personally I feel they are both such great players that a partner really doesn't matter. Mahesh is capable of winning the Doha Asiad gold even with Shikha. He won his first title with a person who was unheard of - Rika Hiraki," said Shyam Minotra, Chairman, AITA Selection Committee.A practice session to assess Bhupathi's fitness levels had also taken place in Doha. The session came after Bhupathi's below par performance on Monday after which Paes had hinted that Bhupathi's lack of commitment was instrumental in their losing their opening round match against Chinese Taipei.Having decided to play together in the Asiad men's tennis doubles event, it seems the Indian Express have, at least for the time-being, chosen to put country above controversy.
