Switzerland's Roger Federer won an ATP title on home soil for the first time in his career on Sunday with a 6-2, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 victory over Russia's Igor Andreev. This success comes just a week after the world number one successfully defended his men's singles title at Wimbledon to win his third Grand Slam. Despite facing his fourth opponent in just three days, Federer was a cut above Andreev at the start of this best of five sets match. Russian Andreev was broken for the first time in the fourth game of the first set, which Federer took 6-2. Desired title A single break of 20-year-old Andreev's made all of the difference in the second set, which Federer took 6-3 to move to within a set of a much desired Swiss Open title. Everything was going to plan as Federer broke Andreev in the third game of the third set, but the Russian wasn't about to concede victory in his first appearance at a final. A break in the eighth game saw Andreev level the set at four games all, and he would make another dent in Federer's serve in the 12th game. Andreev earned a set point, which he duly converted to take the third set 7-5. The 22-year-old broke for a 4-2 lead in the fourth set and picked up three championship points on Andreev's serve in the ninth game. Federer sealed the 17th title of his career on the second of those points, completing a 6-2, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3 victory to finally win an ATP tournament on his home soil. (AP)
