Melbourne:
Australian tennis coach Brent Larkham threatened to punch tennis great John McEnroe over remarks he made during his Australian Open television commentary, according to a report today.Larkham was incensed over comments McEnroe made during the broadcast of his brother Todd's second round match with world number one Lleyton Hewitt on Thursday.Larkham offered to settle the issue with McEnroe outside the stadium because he felt the American tennis legend made insulting, derisive remarks about Todd Larkham, the Sunday Herald Sun newspaper said."I asked him if he wanted to back up his big mouth with a bit of action out in the car park, but he didn't want to," Larkham was quoted by the newspaper. "He wouldn't justify what he said other than to say he gets paid to do a job and he calls it the way he sees it".Hewitt savaged the 235-ranked qualifier 6-1, 6-0, 6-1 in a blistering 74 minutes on Rod Laver Arena centre court. McEnroe said he did not believe the match deserved to be played on centre court and criticized some of Larkham's playing as "pitiful".Todd Larkham said he felt McEnroe's comments ignored some aspects of his playing record and was hurt by the comments."It's fine to be critical of my game, if that's what he wants, and I'm okay with that," he told the Sunday Herald Sun. "But when he gets personal, that's where it is wrong". (PTI)
