Khade wins 2nd gold, Sejwal silver in Tokyo

Kolhapur teen Virdhawal Khade won the 200m freestyle gold before returning to the pool to bag silver in 50m butterfly with a new national record, while compatriot Sandeep Sejwal bettered 100m breaststroke national mark he had set earlier to win the silver in the Asian Age Group Swimming Championships in Tokyo on Tuesday.

In 200m freestyle, Khade clocked 1min 50.14sec to pip two Kazakh opponents, who were hot on his heels before the Indian won the fiercely contested race, setting a new meet record in the process.

Later in the day, Khade bettered his own national record to win the silver in the 50m butterfly event with a time of 24.17sec.

The young swimmer, who won 100m butterfly race on Monday, now has two gold and one silver medals from the event with two more individual events to go.

Meanwhile, Delhi boy Sejwal maintained his impeccable form - bettering his own national record in 100m breaststroke event with a scintillating time of 1min 00.97sec.

Sejwal was among the slowest to get off the blocks at the start, but was the fastest swimmer at the turn, before again finishing a mere whisker behind Polyakov Vladislav of Kazakhistan to bag his second silver of the tournament in as many races.

Sejwal on Monday had won silver in 50m breaststroke event with a new national record of 27.84sec.
