Jitu Rai, World No.1 in Men's 50m Pistol, shot a 555 in his elimination round to sail through to the qualification round of the event, slated for Tuesday along with the finals, on Day 4 of the ISSF World Cup (Rifle/Pistol/Shotgun) at Rio De Janerio's Olympic Shooting Centre.
Team-mate Prakash Nanjappa also shot an identical score to end up sixth in his elimination round whereas Jitu was positioned 10th at the end of his. A good show on Tuesday would see them qualify for the finals.
Meanwhile, India's lone individual Olympic champion Abhinav Bindra and Olympic bronze medalist Gagan Narang missed out on the finals of the only medal event slated for the day, the Men's 10m Air Rifle.
Abhinav shot 626.2 to finish 10th while Gagan managed a 622.8 to end 31st. Chain Singh, the third Indian in the fray in the category, finished in 52nd with a score of 619.4.
Day 5 has two finals lined up, both in the men's section. Along with the 50m Pistol, the Men's Double Trap medals will also be decided on the day.
