Big Three vs the Rest of the World: Is world cricket headed for a radical overhaul?

Will India, England and Australia stage a cricket coup? A draft proposal that recommends a structural overhaul of the International Cricket Council and proposes bigger revenues and more executive decision-making powers to the cricket Boards of India, Australia and England, is threatening to divide the cricket world. The ICC Executive Board meets in Dubai on January 28 and 29 to review the proposal that is already meeting opposition from the world's No. 1 Test team South Africa. The proposal seems to have commercial implications and smaller Test-playing nations like Bangladesh may lose out on the quantum of financial aid they receive from the ICC. India is apparently leading the Big Three onslaught as BCCI brings in the maximum revenue to the ICC. Naturally, India want a bigger revenue share from the apex body. The proposal also threatens to make the ICC's Future Tours Programme redundant as the Big Three will be free to choose the nations they want to play. It is feared that cash-rich T20 leagues may come to prevail and England could have its own version of the IPL or the Australian Big Bash. Cricket is on the tenterhooks as globalization of the game seems least on the minds of the stronger Boards who aim to get richer and richer.
