PV Sindhu, Mithali Raj to Receive Padma Shri Award
Shuttler PV Sindhu and cricketer Mithali Raj will be felicitated with the prestigious Padma Shri award - the fourth highest civilian honour.

Badminton player PV Sindhu and cricketer Mithali Raj will receive the Padma Shri Award on Republic Day.
The 19-year-old shuttler Sindhu has had a good run of form in 2014. She reached the semifinal stage of Glasgow Commonwealth Games in the women's singles competition, where she eventually lost.
Sindhu created history when she became the first Indian to win two back-to-back medals in the World Badminton Championships. She also reached the semis of the World Cup which was held in Denmark. She is currently 9th in the international rankings.
Mithali Raj is the captain of the Indian women's cricket team. She was a consistent performer in 2014 even though her team failed to make it into the semis of the Women's World T20.
Iconic wrestler-turned-coach Satpal was named for the prestigious Padma Bhushan award, while national hockey team captain Sardar Singh was among the five sportspersons chosen for this year's Padma Shri awards.
Former women's hockey player Saba Anjum, Arunima Sinha -- the first woman amputee mountaineer to climb Mount Everest were also selected for this year's Padma Shri awards.
Padma Shri (also Padmashree) is the fourth highest civilian award in the Republic of India, after the Bharat Ratna, the Padma Vibhushan and the Padma Bhushan. It is awarded by the Government of India. The award is announced every year on Republic Day.
