In 2011 India hosted its first ever Formula One Grand Prix at the Buddh International Circuit, and by March 2013 MotoGP will make its debut at the 5.14-km long racetrack.
According to media reports, by March 2013 Buddh International Circuit is aiming to add both MotoGP and World Superbike to its event line-up. "We want to accommodate all of these races, but India has only five months of good weather (October-March) when they can be held," said Sameer Gaur, managing director and chief executive officer of Jaypee Sports International told a leading business daily.
Another leading website says: "The decision to hold the opening round of next year's MotoGP season in India comes directly from Carmelo Ezpelata, the head of MotoGP organising body, Dorna, who insisted that the MotoGP racing season should start earlier from next year in the month of March than its present opening in April."
Leading international car and motorcycle manufacturers have also shown keen interest in the Indian circuit and its potential to hold world class events to showcase their products.
