PSPB's Gnasekaran Sathiyan and Krittwicka Sinha Roy of West Bengal have been given the top billing in the singles events of the boys and girls sections at the 74th Junior and Youth National Table Tennis Championships starting in Indore on Saturday.
Krittiwicka has been seeded No. 1 for the first time after a consistent season where she earned the maximum ranking points to go up the ladder.
Olympian Ankita Das has been seeded No. 2 due to a patchy season while Manika Batra at No. 4.
Sathiyan should consider himself lucky to have been seeded No. 1 because of the absence of both senior national champion Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Desai.
Last year's runner-up in boy's competition, Sathiyan has managed to keep his ranking intact as both the senior national champion Soumyajit Ghosh and Harmeet Desai are not taking part in the competition. The duo is currently in Sweden and are preparing for the Commonwealth Championships to be held in New Delhi in May.
Meanwhile, 40 boys and 32 girls have qualified for the singles main draw events which begin on Saturday at the Abhay Prashal Indoor Stadium.
