CWG Medalist Narsingh Yadav Caught Cheating in Police Academy Exams

Gold medalist wrestler Narsingh Yadav's dream to become a police officer hangs in limbo as he was allegedly caught cheating while taking a written examination conducted by the Maharashtra Police Training Academy, Nashik.
Yadav was caught copying during the Local and Special Law exam, held on June 17 at the academy and was asked to leave the examination hall, Deputy Director, Police Training Academy Niranjan Vayangankar said on Friday.
If the 24-year-old Olympian had cleared the internal written exams, he would have been recruited as Deputy Superintendent in Thane's rural region, he said.
Yadav was required to take a total of 13 papers, but in the fourth paper he was caught cheating and hence was not allowed take the remaining exams, Director Police Training Academy Naval Bajaj said.
According to police, Yadav was selected for the post of deputy superintendent of police after he won the freestyle gold medal in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games.
After completing the due paperwork, Yadav joined the Police Training Academy's rigorous two-year training programme last year at Nashik, nearly 170 km from here.
The athlete would have become a Dy SP officer, if had he cleared the internal exams, which is the last step in the evaluation of a candidate.
He was conferred the Arjuna Award in 2012.
Asked about the fate of Yadav in this regard, Bajaj refused to comment stating that it is an internal matter of the police department.
Yadav is likely to face an inquiry, after which a decision will be taken on whether to extend his training or dismiss him.
Meanwhile, Yadav refused to comment on the issue, citing that he is busy in a meeting.
