President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday extended his best wishes to the Indian athletes participating in the Rio Olympic Games and said they should also promote unity and friendship with sportspersons of other nations.
In his message to Chef-de-Mission of the Indian Contingent Rakesh Gupta, the President said he is sure that the Games will be an opportunity for the sportspersons to display their talent and test themselves in various sporting disciplines.
"These Games will be an opportunity for competing with participants from all over the world in the best traditions of sportsmanship. I urge our sportspersons to do their best for the glory of the nation and to promote unity and friendship with sportspersons of all participating nations," he said on the eve of the Games.
India would be represented by its biggest ever contingent in the Rio Games with as many as 118 athletes competing in various disciplines.
