In the quarter-finals, Vinesh started off well but during the course of her bout, she seriously injured her knee and had to concede the match. After conferring with the referee and medical staff, the Indian wrestler was being stretchered off. However, as she was being carried away from the arena, she received a warm reception from the crowd.
In a show of Olympic spirit, her Chinese opponent, Sun Yunan, waited for her and walked down with her. She also offered to carry her bag.
In the 58kg freestyle wrestling event, Sakshi Malik won a tight match against Moldova's Esanu Cherdivara to reach the quarter-finals.
