India are projected to win eight medals including a gold at the 2016 Rio Olympics, according to a Goldman Sachs report.
The global financial firm in its 'The Olympics and Economics' report has predicted the number of medals and their colour that each country will win at the quadrennial sporting extravaganza, which begins on August 5.
The predicted medal tally is two more than the one India achieved at the 2012 London Olympics.
Goldman Sachs had then predicted that India would clinch five medals including two golds. But the actual tally turned out to be six, comprising two silver and four bronze medals.
Adding further, Goldman's survey predicts US and China to emerge as table-toppers, bagging 106 and 89 medals, respectively.
While the United States are tipped to win 45 golds, China follow them with their share of 36, the report added.
However, Goldman has put Russia off the medals podium, as most of their athletes have been banned from participating in the Rio Olympics following allegations of state-sponsored doping.
Recently, a survey by Associated Press predicted that India would win just two medals at the Olympics.
It projected that Sania Mirza and Rohan Bopanna could win the bronze medal in the mixed doubles event in tennis while Jitu Rai would win the 50m pistol silver medal.
