From politicians to sporting greats, many Indian public figures showered accolades on para-athlete Deepa Malik, after the latter won the silver medal in the F-53 shotput event at the Rio Paralympic Games on Monday.
With Mariyappan Thangavelu and Varun Singh Bhati clinching the gold and bronze medals, respectively, in the T-42 high jump category, India completed its set of medals at the ongoing Paralympic Games.
Deepa Malik is the first female athlete from India to win a medal at the Paralympic Games. Following her silver-winning feat in Rio, PM Narendra Modi tweeted the following:
Cricket great Sachin Tendulkar called her Rio performance 'phenomenal'.
Other sporting greats too lauded Deepa Malik for her achievement. Abhinav Bindra called her 'an inspiration to India', while union minister and 2004 Olympics silver medallist Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore too congratulated her.
Among other sportspersons who hailed Malik on Twitter were Vijender Singh, Saina Nehwal, Yogeshwar Dutt, Ajinkya Rahane and Heena Sidhu.

Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Sports Minister Vijay Goel joined in the celebrations too, while BCCI and Hockey sent in their wishes as well.
