About Wembley Stadium in Wembley Park
Built on the site of an earlier stadium which was also called the Empire Stadium (built in 1923), Wembley Stadium will host the finals of the men's and women's soccer competitions.
With a capacity of 90,000, Wembley is the largest stadium in England and second largest in Europe, and is the national stadium of England's soccer team. Built after the demolition of the earlier stadium in 2003, it was handed over in 2007 after numerous hurdles. The venue though was and continues to be a spectacle of sporting excellence.
Among its many features is an all-seater stadium based around a bowl design and sliding roof. The pitch itself is 105m *69m and the surface has been relaid several times due to problems of footing and gripping.
While football has been the main event here, several concerts have also been hosted including that of George Michael, Jon Bon Jovi, Metallica, Coldplay, Oasis and AC/DC among several others.
