About Sandeep Singh:
The leading star and the most talked about player in the Indian national team, Sandeep Singh has earned every bit of the fame and repute that he now enjoys.
Hailing from Shahbad in Haryana, Sandeep is the younger brother of Bikramjit Singh who was part of the 2001 Junior World Cup winning team. This 26-year-old however has paved his own path to glory.
Making his international debut in the 2004 edition of Sultan Azland Shah Cup, Sandeep's drag-flick soon attained repute all over. With a reported speed of 145 kmph, he was feared greatly by custodians in the opposite camp. While most continue to devise special strategy to counter him during penalty corners, Sandeep has other bullets in his armoury as well.
His stellar and mostly consistent performance saw him being elevated to the role of skipper in 2009. This after his rather jittery relations with coach Joquim Carvalho made national headlines in 2007.
Sandeep has shown that he continues to posses a determination that no many other players can boast about. The apt example of this is when he was accidentaly shot in 2006. Sandeep was traveling in Shatabdi train and was to join the national team for a German tour. Paralyzed and unable to walk for a long period, Sandeep showed resolve and made a comeback in grand passion.
In London, there would not be any shortage in the same steely resolve.
