Maria Sharapova overcame an early deficit and 10 double-faults on Wednesday to reach the Olympic quarterfinals by beating No. 15-seeded Sabine Lisicki of Germany 6-7 (8), 6-4, 6-3.

Sharapova, playing in her first Olympics, let out a whoop when she closed out the victory with an ace. The Russian's opponent Thursday will be Kim Clijsters, a first-time Olympian but four-time Grand Slam champion.
