Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is happy seeing the team's bowling unit take the back seat for a change, with the batters going gung-ho in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 campaign. But, Bhuvi isn't someone who is going to let the batters take all the credit, as for him, it's the bowling unit that delivers 'championships' while the batting units only provide 'sponsorships'. Bhuvneshwar made the statement after SRH's thumping victory against Delhi Capitals on Sunday in a contest where the veteran seamer's team scored 260-plus runs for the third time in this campaign.
"When you're defending those many runs, we accepted that we will go for plenty of runs. We wanted to keep executing our plans. Just a matter of time before I start picking up wickets and things start going right," Bhuvi said in the post-match presentation ceremony.
The seamer also held a big praise for teammate T Natarajan who has done well with his bowling performances this season, though it's the batting unit that has been dominating headlines.
"We know how good he's (Natarajan) with his yorkers, he's a silent guy who keeps working hard. He's truly a matchwinner. Probably the first time our batting has clicked so well in so many years, as a bowling unit we are happy to take a bit of a backseat. We'll feel like a score like 220-200 is less but yea great that the batting unit is clicking. Conditions don't matter, they keep doing the same thing even in the nets," Bhuvneshwar added.
Though Bhuvneshwar was full of praise for Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma for the sort of starts they've given to SRH this season, he also maintained that the bowlers win championships.
"You don't think much about where the ball is going while bowling in the nets but yes, they give us some nice practice, especially Abhishek and Travis Head. Bowling is something that wins you matches, not sure who said it but they said 'batting wins you sponsorships and bowling wins you championships', I think that's a great saying. The way we executed our plans is great," he concluded.
