Hashim Amla, AB de Villiers Consolidate After Ajinkya Rahane's Twin Tons
December 06, 2015 16:58
India's Ajinkya Rahane stroked his second century of the match to help India set South Africa a 481-run victory target in the fourth and final Test at the Feroz Shah Kotla. Hashim Amla and AB de Villiers stood firm to reach 72/2 at the end of Day 4.

All eyes were on Virat Kohli scoring a century on his home ground, but it was not that case as he was dismissed for 88. Kohli who was batting on 83 overnight, could only add five runs, before he was dismissed by Kyle Abbot much to the disappointment of the local fans.

Ajinkya Rahane, however, showed more urgency today, with couple of clean hits over the fence. Rahane continued from his overnight score of 52 and smashed a six and boundary off Morne Morkel to show his intentions.

Ajinkya Rahane, in the process, shattered his home jinx in spectacular fashion. He became the first batsman to score a century in each innings at the Kotla. The Mumbaikar also became only the fifth Indian to score two centuries in a Test, joining the likes of Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar, Rahul Dravid and Virat Kohli.

Dean Elgar perished before lunch itself, giving India hope of an early finish. Elgar who had looked gritty throughout the series, edged one to Ajinkya Rahane in slips for four.

Since then Temba Bavuma and skipper Hashim Amla added 44 runs as Indian continued to look for breakthroughs. Bavuma was particularly severe on spinners as he smashed a six off Ravichandran Ashwin.

Hashim Amla took a long time to get off the mark in his knock. The South African skipper took as many as 45 balls for a streaky brace, which got him off the mark off Ravindra Jadeja. Amla, who is struggling to get runs in the Test series took a blow as well, which required treatment. Amla was hit on his hand by a Umesh Yadav delivery, which required treatment during the drinks break.

Ravichandran Ashwin's persistence finally paid off as castled Temba Bavuma to give India the second breakthrough. Ashwin lured Bavuma into the drive as the right-hander missed the line of the ball to lose his off-stump. Bavuma looked good in his knock of 34.

Hashim Amla then dropped the anchor to see through the day for the South Africa. India too had to rely on their part-time spinners considering the light conditions at the Feroz Shah Kotla were not ideal for the batsmen to face pacers.
