After losing crucial wickets, India find themselves in a precarious position against England, on Day 3 of the first Test match, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The hosts were 257 for six at Stumps, after the visitors were bowled out for 578. India trail by 321 runs. Openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill couldn't really give India a good start, scoring six and 29 runs respectively. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli (11) and Ajinkya Rahane (1) weren't able to provide the necessary support to Cheteshwar Pujara, who slammed 73 runs off 143 deliveries. The veteran Test batsman built a crucial partnership with Rishabh Pant, which brought India back into the game. Pujara's knock consisted of 11 fours. Pant carried on from where he left off in Australia, slamming 91 runs from 88 balls. The duo lost their wickets to Dom Bess, who has been in fine form for England. Washington Sundar (33) and Ravichandran Ashwin (8) were the two unbeaten batsmen at the close of play. The duo will be aiming to give India a strong start on Day 4. The visiting bowlers were on top form against India, Jofra Archer taking two wickets. Other than Pujara and Pant, Bess also registered the dismissals of Kohli and Rahane. On Day 4, the visitors will be aiming to continue their domination against India.
