According to the latest rankings, India has amassed 4279 points from 36 matches with a rating of 119 to England's 118. Before the Ranchi ODI, England stood on the top while Men in Blue were third behind South Africa.
With South Africa going down narrowly to New Zealand in the teams' first one-dayer, India climbed to the top.
India defeated England quite comfortably by 7-wickets to take a 2-1 lead in the 5-match series.
Virat Kohli at number 3 and MS Dhoni at 4 are the top batsmen for India in the ICC ODI rankings. R Ashwin is at number 7 in the bowlers' ratings.
Ravindra Jadeja is at number 7 in the all-rounders list for ODI players.
The battle for top ODI spot though will go on as India-England and South Africa-New Zealand still have 2 ODIs each to play. After that India play Australia in Test matches before the IPL starts. South Africa though will still have Pakistan ODIs to play. England do not play any ODIs till the Champions Trophy.
However, India, in order to hold onto the top spot, have to win the next ODI in Mohali on January 23. If they lose that game, then England will be back on top of the table.
If India lose in Mohali to England, they will drop two rating points and will be with 117 while England will gain two rating points and move to 120.
