1st Test, Day 4: India vs Australia
February 25, 2013 12:22
India skipper MS Dhoni was instrumental in India getting a 192-run first innings lead as Australia did not have any answers on a crumbling wicket in Chennai.

Once Australia conceded a lead of 192, and with a top order so callow in these conditions, Australia stood little chance, and it needed another innings of great character from Moises Henriques to stave off an innings defeat. A 57-run stand for the final wicket with Nathan Lyon stretched the first Test into a final day, with Australia just 40 ahead. (Photo credit: BCCI)

Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni could not add much to his overnight score but his maiden double century was enough to lift India to a mammoth 572 in their first innings on Day 4 of the first cricket Test against Australia at the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium on Monday. (Photo credit: BCCI)

Dhoni finished a dominating innings on 224 after a James Pattinson bouncer got him to glove one to keeper Matthew Wade. Bhuvneshwar Kumar scored a patient 38 to ably support his captain and give India a sizeable lead. (Photo credit: BCCI)

Bhuvneshwar Kumar proved an able ally for Dhoni. The debutant managed just 38 runs but made sure that his captain got the maximum amount of strike. Dhoni was in complete control of his brilliant innings and simply toyed with the Australian bowlers. (Photo credit: BCCI)

Australia had a slow and nervy start to their second innings losing Shane Watson for 17 just before lunch on Day 4 of the first Test after India batted their way to dominance. Shane Watson, who came out to bat in place of an ill David Warner, was beginning to look threatening. (Photo credit: BCCI)

It was R Ashwin who took Watson's wicket, bat-pad and lobbing a simple catch to Virender Sehwag. Dhoni opened with spin in the second innings and the trend continued with majority of the overs being bowled by Ashwin, Harbhajan and Jadeja. It looks to be a crumbling wicket and that is how India will be aiming to go. (Photo credit: BCCI)

After Ashwin's double strike to get rid of the openers, Ravindra Jadeja too looked increasingly threatening on a 'dust-bowl'. His ball to dismiss Phil Hughes was a snorter and as unplayable a delivery can get. It roared from a length and lobbed to Sehwag at first slip. (Photo credit: BCCI)

In-form skipper Michael Clarke and Warner tried to stem the Indian spinners' charge but were not overly successful. On a turning wicket, the defence was never going to work but even attack did not prove worthy. (Photo credit: BCCI)

David Warner looked to play aggressive but was unsuccessful. His pain-staking knock of 23 from 61 balls finally came to an end when Harbhajan landed one on the off stump and it went straight on. The Aussie looked disappointed but with no DRS around it was difficult to judge. (Photo credit: BCCI)

The turbanator would have been itching to perform on the 'dust-bowl' after a shoddy first innings performance. He looked in his elements in the second innings and Team India would be hopeful that his exploits continue. (Photo credit: BCCI)
