India needed to beat Sri Lanka by a bonus point to have any chances of qualification. Reaching the 320-run score by Sri Lanka in less than 40 overs seemed beyond imagination but in a match where every batsmen showed intent, India got their easily in the end.

The foundation of the win was laid by the partnership between Gambhir and Kohli. The two put up 115 runs at a brisk pace.

Gambhir was run out after his fifty but his replacement Suresh Raina proved even deadlier for the Lankans as he smashed 3 fours and a six on his way to a 24-ball 40.

Dilshan played a 160-run knock which equalled his highest score. The previous innings had also come against India. Coincidently, Sri Lanka ended up on the losing side in that match as well.
