Ricky Ponting, the former Aussie captain though out-of-form, can reach 13,000 runs in Test cricket and become only the third batsman to reach this feat after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Ponting has scored 12,656 runs in 158 Tests with a classic average of 52.29.

Personal milestones aside, Team India has a chance to achieve its first series win in Australia. Although in contention several times, India have never managed to find the final cutting edge to oust the Aussies Down Under. India have lost six Test series and drawn the remaining three out of nine contested in Australia.

Rahul Dravid needs just 51 runs to complete his 2,000 runs against Australia. Dravid has scored 1949 at an average of 42.36 in 29 Tests. He would be the third Indian to accomplish the feat after Sachin Tendulkar (3151) and VVS Laxman (2279).

Sydney Cricket Ground, the venue for the second Test match is set to get its name into an elite league in the history books. SCG will be the third ground to host 100 Test matches; Lord's has hosted 123 Tests - the most at any venue, followed by Melbourne Cricket Ground (103).

With his 35 dismissals in 10 Tests prior to the tour, Mahendra Singh Dhoni requires just 7 dismissals to set an Indian record for most dismissals against Australia. Syed Kirmani with 41 dismissals in 17 Tests holds the record currently.

The dangerous Indian opener Virender Sehwag needs just 20 runs to become the fifth Indian player to complete 8000 runs or more in Tests. Currently he has scored 7980 runs at an average of 52.15 in 92 Tests with 22 blistering centuries. Sachin Tendulkar (15,183), Rahul Dravid (13,094), Sunil Gavaskar (10,122) and VVS Laxman (8626) are the leading Indian run-scorers.
Zoom
VVS Laxman (8626 at an average of 47.13 in 130 Tests) requires 374 runs to complete his 9,000 runs in Test cricket.

The milestone man from India, Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar requires just one century to become the first batsman to complete 30 centuries on foreign soil. A milestone, matchless.
