18:30 HRS IST: This is a crucial game for India. PR Srejeesh has been solid as a rock for India and India will hoping for yet another reliable show from the Indian goalie. ÂÂ
At the bottom of their pool, India face a must-win game against the Netherlands, who are leading the group with four points from two matches. Argentina (3 points) and Germany (2 points) are second and third.
India will draw inspiration from their 1-1 draw against Olympic champions Germany last week. But with a negative goal difference (-3), India have to score more goals to nourish any hopes of making a mark in the tournament.
"Against Germany, we played a very good match. It was a great game. We should have scored two more at least but we have got to keep playing with that intensity. We just have to take it match by match," said Roelant Oltmans, India's Dutch coach.
Oltmans is aware of Netherland's attacking. In their last match, the Dutch, the European champions beat Argentina 3-2. The Netherlands were irrepressible in the early stages, establishing a 3-0 lead thanks to spectacular strikes from youngster Thierry Brinkman and Seve van Ass before Roel Bovendeert tapped home a fine team move.
It will be a solid test for India's defence. Against Argentina, India conceded two of their three goals from penalty corners. PR Sreejesh, normally solid under the Indian bar, has to produce his best on Monday.
Skipper Sardar Singh did well against Germany, marshalling the preparatory zone like a king. India will have to show similar territorial control versus the Dutch and convert that into goals. Akashdeep Singh has scored India's goal so far.
"We have been training hard and have been trying a lot of things. I would want my team to score at least three goals every match. Hopefully tomorrow (Monday) they can do that against the Netherlands," said Oltmans.
India lost 4-2 to the Dutch in the Champions Trophy in 2014. It will be a grudge match of sorts for the home team.
